Brantford Nissan Classic
The Stu Sells Brantford NISSAN Classic is a curling tournament or bonspiel part of the men's and women's curling tour. The event existed exclusively on the Ontario Curling Tour until 2017, before it was added as a WCT event for 2018 and 2019. The event is an annual event held at the end of November and the beginning of December. The event took place at the Brant Curling Club in Brantford, Ontario until 2017. It was moved to the Paris Curling Club in Paris, Ontario in 2018 and then the Brantford Golf & Country Club for 2022. A women's event was held in 2016 and did not return until 2022. Brantford
Brantford (Canada 2021 Census, 2021 population: 104,688) is a city in Ontario, Canada, founded on the Grand River (Ontario), Grand River in Southwestern Ontario. It is surrounded by County of Brant, Brant County, but is politically separate with a municipal government of its own that is fully independent of the county's municipal government. Brantford is situated on the Haldimand Tract, traditional territory of the Neutral Nation, Neutral, Mississaugas, Mississauga, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The city is named after Joseph Brant, an important Mohawk leader, soldier, farmer and slave owner. Dale Matchett
Dale Matchett (born September 1, 1975 in Newmarket, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Alliston, Ontario. Matchett is a former provincial junior curling champion and a regular on the World Curling Tour. Career Junior career In his junior career, Matchett qualified for four provincial junior championships (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996), winning in 1994 playing second for Joe Frans. The team would then represent Ontario at the 1994 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, where they finished with a 7-4 record in 4th place. The same year Matchett skipped his Bradford District High School team to the Ontario Schoolboy Championship. Men's career Matchett began his men's career as a skip in the late 1990s. Jacqueline Harrison
Jacqueline Harrison (born July 28, 1978 in Niagara Falls, Ontario as Jacqueline Smith) is a Canadian curler from Waterdown, Ontario. Harrison currently skips a team on the World Curling Tour. Career Harrison's junior career involved reaching the semi-finals of the 1999 Ontario Juniors, winning the 1999 Ontario University championship and the provincial junior mixed championship playing third for future Olympic champion John Morris. After juniors, Harrison would win the Ontario Curling Association Tim Hortons Trophy with skip Vicky Hysop. She has also played in two mixed provincials (2008 and 2009). Harrison has played in eight provincial women's championships. In 2010, her Alliston Curling Club rink finished the round robin with a 5-4 record, and won a tie-breaker match to make the playoffs. Paul Moffatt
Paul Moffatt (born May 26, 1978) is a Canadian curler. He currently skips his own team out of Waterloo, Ontario. Moffatt played for team John Morris from 2003 to 2006, where he won the 2004 Players' Championship Grand Slam, were runners up at the 2004 Canada Cup of Curling and were bronze medallists at the 2005 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. He is also the winner of the 2019 Canadian Curling Club Championships. When John Morris moved to Calgary in 2003, he formed a team with future Olympians Marc Kennedy and Kevin Koe, and with close friend Moffatt at lead. Moffatt's only major curling experience at the time was playing in the Ontario University Championship with Morris. At first the team kept secret who would be playing lead on the team, only revealing the name to be Pauldo Capones, which would later become Moffatt's nickname. Tanner Horgan
Tanner Horgan (born February 12, 1998 in Sudbury, Ontario) is a Canadian curler. He currently skips his own team. Career Juniors As a bantam aged curler, Horgan won three Northern Ontario titles (2010, 2013 and 2015). In 2012, he won a provincial elementary school championship for all of Ontario, representing MacLeod Public School. Horgan won his first Northern Ontario junior title in 2014, earning him and teammates Nicholas Servant, brother Jacob and Maxime Blais the right to represent the region at the 2014 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. There, he skipped the team to a 5-5 finish, missing the playoffs. Mark Kean
Mark Kean (born June 22, 1988 in Innerkip, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Woodstock, Ontario. He currently skips his own team out of Ottawa. Career Kean's junior career involved winning the provincial junior mixed title in 2009. Kean made a quick transition to men's curling winning the provincial Colts trophy in 2010 and in 2011 playing in his first provincial tournament. At the 2011 provincial championship, his rink finished with a 3-7 record. As preparation for the 2011 provincial, the Kean rink played in their first Grand Slam of Curling event, at the 2011 BDO Canadian Open of Curling, where they went winless (0-5). Codey Maus (born November 16, 1985 in Owen Sound, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Tara, Ontario. Maus is a three-time provincial junior champion and one-time provincial mixed champion. Career Juniors Maus won his first provincial junior title in 2002, playing third for the Jeff Armstrong rink. The team represented Ontario at the 2002 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. Richard Krell
Richard Frederick Krell (born July 13, 1992) is a Canadian curler from Canmore, Alberta. He currently plays third on Team Jeff Richard. Career University curling Krell was a member of the Wilfrid Laurier University curling team, winning provincial titles in 2015 and 2016 and a national title in 2016. Krell has played in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 CIS/CCA Curling Championships for Laurier, throwing third stones for Aaron Squires. Jake Walker (curler)
Jake Walker (born March 14, 1989) is a Canadian curler originally from Minden, Ontario. He is a former Canadian Junior champion, and world junior bronze medallist. As a Bantam-aged curler, Walker won the Ontario Bantam championship in 2005, playing third for Ben Willemse. In 2010, Walker and his rink of Craig Van Ymeren, Geoff Chambers and Matthew Mapletoft won the Pepsi Ontario Junior Curling Championships. The team would represent the province at the 2010 Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. Greg Balsdon
Gregory Balsdon (born October 9, 1977) is a Canadian curler from North York, Ontario. He currently skips a team on the World Curling Tour. Curling career Balsdon was born in Toronto, Ontario. In 1995, Balsdon won the Ontario Schoolboy championship for his Don Mills Collegiate Institute team. In 1996, he won the provincial junior mixed title. Balsdon skips one of the top teams in Ontario. As of 2019, Balsdon has played in 13 provincial championships. He first played at the provincials in 1999, playing for John Base (4th place). He left the Base rink in 2000 to form his own team. Joe Frans
Joseph Mark Frans (born July 1, 1975 in Grimsby, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Guelph, Ontario. Frans is most notable for being a two-time provincial champion and for being suspended from competitive curling for cocaine usage. Career Frans obtained fame as a curler in 1991, when he won the provincial school boys championship and the provincial junior mixed championship while curling in Smiths Falls, Ontario. In 1993, Frans won the provincial junior championship while playing in St. Catharines, Ontario. At the 1993 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, his team would finish with a 6-5 record. In 1994, Frans would win a second straight provincial championship, this time with Bradford, Ontario.
