Branksome Park is a suburb of Poole in Dorset, which adjoins Branksome, Dorset. The area covers approximately , mostly occupied by housing, and includes Branksome Chine which leads to the award-winning blue-flagged beaches of Poole. Description Branksome Park is one of Poole's most affluent areas alongside Sandbanks, Canford Cliffs, Evening Hill, Lilliput, and Salterns Marina. It is on the border of Poole, with Bournemouth being on the other side of The Avenue. It is less than two miles (3 km) from the shopping areas of Westbourne and The Square in the centre of Bournemouth. House prices vary widely in the area; there are small 1960s flats costing just under £200,000 and mansions costing well over £3 million. The Square, Bournemouth
The Square is a public square in Bournemouth Town Centre that marks the centre of Bournemouth, England. The Square separates the Central Gardens from the Lower Gardens. History In the 18th century Decoy Pond House stood at the point where a plank was used to cross the Bourne Steam on the track from Poole to Christchurch. The River Bourne still flows under the Square. In 1848 composer Hubert Parry was born next door to The Square and is marked with a blue plaque. In 1925, a tram shelter was built at the center of the Square, with a clock on the top, which was given by Captain HB Norton, a magistrate and former Councillor. The Square later became a large roundabout, with the clock being relocated into a clock tower at the roundabout's centre. By this time the clock tower had become known as the "Leaning Tower of Bournemouth". The roundabout was removed in October 1992, and since 2000 the square has been almost totally pedestrianised. Alum Chine
Alum Chine is the largest chine in Bournemouth, England. The gorge was crossed by a suspension bridge by the early part of the twentieth century. History In early maps the place was often transposed with Durley Chine. During World War II, Robert Louis Stevenson's house Skerryvore, at the head of the chine, was severely damaged by bombs during a destructive and lethal raid on Bournemouth on the night of 15–16 November 1940. Parkstone is an area of Poole, Dorset. It is divided into 'Lower' and 'Upper' Parkstone.
