David Brandl
David Karl Brandl (born 19 April 1987) is an Austrian swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. He is a multiple-time Austrian champion, a four-time national record holder, and a current member of Perger Swimming Club (german: Perger Schwimmverein) in Perg. He also won a bronze medal, as a member of the Austrian swimming team, at the 2008 European Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Swimming career Brandl qualified for the men's 400 m freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by attaining a B-standard entry time of 3:51.35 from the Austrian Swimming Championships, coincidentally in his home city Linz. He won the second heat by twenty-one hundredths of a second (0.21) ahead of France's Sébastien Rouault, with an Austrian record-breaking time of 3:48.63. Johann Brandl (30 October 1835 – 9 June 1913) was an Austrian composer and conductor of theatre orchestras, for many years conductor at the Carltheater in Vienna. Life Brandl was born in 1835 in Kirchenbirk in Bohemia (now , near Březová (Sokolov District), Březová in Sokolov district), son of a tobacconist and master carpenter. He came to Vienna in 1853, where he studied with Jakob Dont and took a bandmaster course with Andreas Leonhardt. Johann Evangelist Brandl (14 November 1760 – 26 May 1837) was a German composer and music director. Life Brandl was born in 1760 in Rohr Abbey, near Regensburg, and studied violin and piano there in his early years. In 1770 he went to a monastery in Munich, where he was a chorister; from 1774 he was educated at a seminary in Neuburg an der Donau. From 1778 he studied composition with R. Schlecht in Eichstätt. John Brandl
John Brandl (August 19, 1937 – August 18, 2008) was a Minnesota economist, state legislator and dean of the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. He also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare during the Johnson Administration. Born in St. Cloud, Minnesota, he graduated from Cathedral High School in 1955. He earned an undergraduate degree in economics from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota in 1959, followed by a master's degree and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 1963. In 1968, he returned to Minnesota to become assistant professor at the School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. He rose to be Associate Professor and its director. Therese Brandl (1 February 1902 – 24 January 1948) was a Nazi concentration camp guard. In March 1942, Brandl was among the SS women assigned to Auschwitz I concentration camp. Her duties included watching over women in the sorting sheds and as the ''SS Rapportaufseherin''. In October 1942, she was posted to the newly opened Auschwitz II extermination camp at Birkenau.
