Sandby
Sandby is a village located some northwest of Nakskov on the Danish island of Lolland. It belongs to Lolland Municipality in Region Sjælland. As of 2022, it has a population of 345. History Sandby has a history going back to the 13th century. From 1915 to 1967, it had a station on the Nakskov-Kragenæs Railway called Harpelunde as there was already a Sandby Station in Odsherred. The northern and eastern parts of the village bear traces of their agricultural history while more recent developments can be seen around the church to the south. Landmarks Dating from the middle of the 13th century, Sandby Church has a Romanesque chancel and nave and a Late Gothic tower. Nakskov
Nakskov is a town in south Denmark. It is situated in Lolland municipality in Region Sjælland on the western coast of the island of Lolland. The town has a population of 12,495 (1 January 2022). To the west is Nakskov Fjord, an inlet from the Langeland Belt (''Langelandsbælt'') that runs between the islands of Lolland and Langeland. Nakskov Fjord is a wildlife reserve, known for its bird life. History Nakskov is in the inner part of the Western inlet of Lolland, one of the agriculturally richest of the Danish islands. Lolland municipality (on the island of Lolland) is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Sjælland in Denmark. Christian Falster
Christian Falster (January 1, 1690 – October 24, 1752) was a Danish poet and philologist, born at Branderslev (island of Laaland). He became rector of the school at Ribe. He preferred to live there, refusing to accept better positions, and keeping his rectorship. He published translations of Ovid (1719) and the Satires of Juvenal (1731); 11 original satires on his times, often reprinted (1720–39); and in Latin a number of works, such as ''Viglia Prima Noctium Ripensiun'' (1721); ''Memori Obscur (1722); Amnitates Philologic'' (three volumes, 1821–32). The editors of ''The Classical Journal'' wrote that: Falster thought that all learning should be brought to bear upon theology, and, like Erasmus, he that classical authors could contribute much toward sound religion. Gustav Wied
Gustav Johannes Wied (6 March 1858 – 24 October 1914) was a Danish writer. He was generally known as a satire, satirical critic of society in his time and he deliberately used his writing talents to expose the establishment, bourgeoisie and ruling class. The government had him imprisoned for 14 days in 1882 for a short story published in a newspaper. Wied wrote novels, short stories, poems and plays (including several satyr plays). Biography Gustav Wied was born in Branderslev near Nakskov as the fifth of eleven children by Carl August Wied and Catha Wied. His best-known work is the novel ''Livsens Ondskab'' (1899), depicting life in a small provincial Danish town.
