Bram Lomans
Abraham ("Bram") Robertus Lomans (born 19 April 1975 in Roosendaal) is a former Netherlands, Dutch field hockey player, who twice won the gold medal at the Olympics: in Atlanta (1996 Summer Olympics, 1996 and in Sydney (2000 Summer Olympics, 2000). He made his debut for the Dutch side on 16 June 1995 in a friendly match against Ireland men's national field hockey team, Ireland. Since then the defender has played 201 international matches for Holland, in which he scored 140 goals. Lomans was famous for his penalty corner (field hockey), penalty corners. He is one of the precursors of the drag flick (field hockey), drag flick technique that appeared in the 1990s. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Ireland Men's National Field Hockey Team
The Ireland men's national field hockey team is organised by Hockey Ireland and represents both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in international men's field hockey competitions, including the Summer Olympics, the Men's Hockey World Cup and the EuroHockey Nations Championship. They have previously competed in the Men's Intercontinental Cup, the Hockey Champions Challenge, the Men's FIH Hockey World League and the FIH Hockey Series. On 26 January 1895 Ireland played in the first ever international field hockey match when they defeated Wales 3–0 in Rhyl. Ireland were finalists and silver medallists at the 1908 Summer Olympics. HGC (field Hockey)
H.O.C. Gazellen-Combinatie, also known as HGC, is a Dutch field hockey club located in Wassenaar, South Holland on the border of The Hague. The club was founded on 22 September 1906. The first teams (men and women) competed for many years on the highest level of the Dutch field hockey league, in the "Hoofdklasse". In 1995/'96 both the men's and the women's first team won the national championship. The men's 1st XI also competed in the Euro Hockey League. HGC has produced a number of internationals for the Dutch national teams as well as attracting a number of internationals from other countries. Terry Walsh (field Hockey)
Terence ("Terry") Arthur Walsh (born 20 November 1953) is a field hockey coach and a former player who played as a striker for Australia. He represented Australia in two Olympic Games, winning a silver medal at the 1976 Games in Montreal. Following his playing career, he became a coach and had successful spells with Australia and Netherlands. He also coached the Indian men's team and guided the team to its first gold medal at the Asian Games after 16 years. Coaching career Walsh was the head coach of the Australia men's national team during the 1990s.
