Brad Wilson (cricketer)
Bradley Svend Wilson (born 10 April 1985) is a former cricketer. He played for New Zealand in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2004. In 2004–05 he was selected to play first-class cricket for Northern Districts and made 96 against Otago on his first-class debut. His later innings have, however, were disappointing, but he was retained by Northern Districts for the 2005–06 season. Wilson also played for Northland in the Hawke Cup. He was born in Auckland. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. 2011–12 Plunket Shield Season
The 2011–12 Plunket Shield season was the 86th season of official first class domestic cricket in New Zealand. The season started on 7 November 2011. The Plunket Shield and other domestic cricket in New Zealand has traditionally been broadcast ball-by-ball by Radio New Zealand (RNZ) and more recently by Radio Sport after parts of RNZ were privatised in the 1990s. This season marked a historic milestone when Radio Sport decided to not provide any live commentary of the Plunket Shield, . This was unexpected by both listeners and the administrators of six major associations. The competition was won by Northern Districts, who claimed the title for the eighth time after securing enough bonus points in their final match despite losing heavily to Central Districts by 252 runs. Hawke Cup
The Hawke Cup is a non-first-class cricket competition for New Zealand's district associations. Apart from 1910–11, 1912–13 and 2000–01 the competition has always been on a challenge basis. To win the Hawke Cup, the challengers must beat the holders, either outright or on the first innings in a drawn match, on the holders' home ground. Teams from New Zealand's four main centres, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, have not usually competed for the Hawke Cup, although they did participate in the latter half of the 1990s. They were excluded again from the 2000–01 season. From 2000 to 2010 the team from Hamilton, New Zealand's fourth-largest urban area, was the most successful. Northland Cricket Team
The Northland cricket team represents the Northland region of New Zealand. It competes in the Hawke Cup. History The first mention of cricket in the history of New Zealand is from Northland: a game on the beach at Paihia, in the Bay of Islands, in December 1832. However, it was not until 1926 that a regional cricket body, the North Auckland Cricket Association, was established. The first match for the Dargaville Shield, contested by clubs within the Association, was played in January 1927, when Mangonui beat Northern Wairoa. North Auckland, captained by W. J. An innings is one of the divisions of a cricket match during which one team takes its turn to bat. Innings also means the period in which an individual player bats (acts as either striker or nonstriker). The ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup is an international cricket tournament organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) contested by national under-19 teams. First contested in 1988, as the Youth World Cup, it was not staged again until 1998. Since then, the World Cup has been held as a biennial event, organised by the ICC. Off Break
Off spin is a type of finger spin bowling in cricket. A bowler who uses this technique is called an off spinner. Off spinners are right-handed spin bowlers who use their fingers to spin the ball. Their normal delivery is an off break, which spins from left to right (from the bowler's perspective) when the ball bounces on the pitch. For a right-handed batsman, this is from his off side to the leg side (that is, towards the right-handed batsman, or away from a left-handed batsman). The ball breaks ''away'' from the off side, hence the name 'off break'. Off spinners bowl mostly off breaks, varying them by adjusting the line and length of the deliveries.
