Boža Jovanović
Boža Jovanović was the first drummer of the Serbian rock band Idoli. He was the band member until 1982 and released two singles and one EP with the band. Biography Jovanović has lived in Belgrade in the same apartment building where Vlada Divljan and Zdenko Kolar lived. The three made a deal to start playing. Divljan got a guitar, Kolar bought a bass and Boža Jovanović used a tin barrel as a drum with metal sticks made by Kolar's father. The band was called Faraoni (Pharaohs) since Divljan had a necklace from Egypt, given by his grandmother, with a Tutankhamun medallion. Since there was a popular band from Kopar named Faraoni, the band was renamed to Holipe. The band lasted for a short time. When Dečaci decided to start playing Divljan called Kolar and Jovanović to join the band. Maljčiki
"Maljčiki" (Serbian Cyrillic: Маљчики, Russian for "Boys") is the second single by the Serbian and former Yugoslav new wave music band Idoli. It also appeared on the Yugoslav new wave compilation '' Paket aranžman'' which is one of the most important Yugoslav rock releases. History Vlada Divljan, the member of Idoli wanted to create a song which would be a parody on the Soviet Socialist realism. Prior to the release of Maljčiki, Idoli had written songs about freedom of love like "Retko te viđam sa devojkama" (re-released as the B-side on the single) but had not done anything explicitly political. The Soviet embassy condemned the release of the song. The song depicts a sort of Stakhanov-like proletarian who enthusiastically wakes up in the early dawn to go to work in a mine and a metallurgy factory. Retko Te Viđam Sa Devojkama
"Retko te viđam sa devojkama" ("I Rarely See You With Girls") is the second song which appeared on the first single by Serbian new wave band Idoli (the first being " Pomoć, pomoć"). History The band recorded two songs which would appear as the A-side of the single given as a present with the May release of the "Vidici" magazine. The song did not actually appear as a B-side as both of the songs appeared on the A-side while the B-side contained Slobodan Škerović's narrative poem called "Poklon". The song is widely regarded as the one of the first Yugoslavian, or more precisely, first Serbian song about homosexuality (first one was "Neki dječaci" from Prljavo kazalište in Zagreb, Croatia). The main focal point of the lyrics is a young man who is rarely seen amongst members of the opposite sex. VIS Idoli (EP)
''VIS Idoli'' was the first and only EP by the Yugoslav new wave band Idoli. The cover of the EP is the ''Red Nude'', an act by Amedeo Modigliani. History The euphoria Idoli have made with their single Maljčiki / Retko te viđam sa devojkama resulted a great expectation on the next release. The band entered the studio in April 1981. Photographs from the recording sessions were released in newspapers and magazines. The band recorded six songs, including two cover versions. The whole material was released on a 12" self-titled EP. The band covered in an Elvis Costello style Chuck Berry's hit “Come On” but with lyrics in Serbo‐Croatian entitled "Hajde!" and "Devojko mala" for which the lyrics were taken from Nebojša Krstić's poetry book "O, Ima Načina". ''Paket aranžman'' (''Package Tour'') is a new wave music compilation album released in 1981 by Jugoton. Featuring eminent Belgrade acts Šarlo Akrobata, Električni Orgazam and Idoli, it is considered to be one of the most important and influential records ever made in SFR Yugoslavia. In addition to critical praise, it reached a cult status among the audiences and continues to be popular across the countries that emerged after the breakup of Yugoslavia. Goran Bregović
Goran Bregović (born 22 March 1950) is a recording artist from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is one of the most internationally known modern musicians and composers of the Slavic-speaking countries in the Balkans, and is one of the few former Yugoslav musicians who has performed at major international venues such as Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall and L'Olympia. A Sarajevo native, Bregović started out with Kodeksi and Jutro, but rose to prominence as the main creative mind and lead guitarist of Bijelo Dugme, widely considered one of the most popular and influential recording acts ever to exist in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. New Wave Music
New wave is a loosely defined music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles from the late 1970s and the 1980s. "Pomoć, pomoć" ("Help, Help") is the first song which appeared on the first single by Serbian new wave band Idoli. The song, with "Retko te viđam sa devojkama" appeared on the A-side while the B-side contained Slobodan Škerović's narrative poem called "Poklon". The song was performed live by the band for a very short time and there are no cover versions of the song.
