Box Frenzy
''Box Frenzy'' is the debut studio album by English rock band Pop Will Eat Itself. It was released on 26 October 1987 in the United Kingdom by Chapter 22 Records and in the United States by Rough Trade Records. At the end of 1987, the ''NME'' ranked the album at number 49 in their list of the top 50 "Albums of the Year". '' Q'' also included it in their unordered list of the year's 50 best albums. In 2005, '' The Word'' included the album in the second part of its list "Hidden Treasure: Great Underrated Albums of Our Time." Content The track "There Is No Love Between Us Anymore" samples the songs "When I Fall In Love" by Nat King Cole, and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by The Righteous Brothers. Their better-known track "Hit the Hi-Tech Groove" not only samples the techno-disco song " Respectable" by Mel & Kim, as well as the Whistle song "Just Buggin'", but defiantly boasts that the band steals (though they actually sample) as many varieties of sounds that they can get to ... Pop Will Eat Itself
Pop Will Eat Itself are an English alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Stourbridge in the West Midlands of England with members from Birmingham, Coventry and the Black Country. Initially known as a grebo act, they changed style to incorporate sample-driven indie and industrial rock. Graham Crabb describes their sound as "electronic, punk, alternative hip-hop, hybrid music for fucking, fighting & smoking cigars". Their highest- charting single was the 1993 top-ten hit "Get the Girl! Kill the Baddies!". After initially disbanding in 1996, and having a brief reformation in 2005, they issued their first release in more than five years in 2010. Beaver Patrol
"Beaver Patrol" is a single released by the band Pop Will Eat Itself in 1987. It appears on the album Box Frenzy in a slightly edited version. The song was originally recorded by the sixties band The Wilde Knights. Beaver Patrol is the point where Pop Will Eat Itself's musical style drastically changed with the loss of live drums due to Graham converting to lead vocals. Beaver Patrol is far more electronic than anything previously released by the band, with a drum machine replacing the live drumkit and the prominent use of various vocal samples. This new style would persist for the next six years, until the introduction of a new live drummer, Fuzz Townshend. The b-side of the 7" version, Bubbles – as well as the other b-sides found on the 12" version – still retains the guitar-driven, live drumming grebo (music), grebo style of PWEI's early releases. "The Jack That House Built" is a song by British house music act under the name of Jack 'N' Chill consisting of band members Edward "Ed" Stratton and Vlad Naslas. It was first released in June 1987 but failed to reach Top 40. It was re-released in early 1988, and in February, it reached a peak of no. 6 in the UK, charting in the top 100 for a total of 18 weeks. The song is an electronic house instrumental that sampled the "Yeah Yeah" vocals from a track by Evelyn King. The song was created on an Atari ST. Adam And The Ants
Adam and the Ants were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. The group existed in two incarnations, both fronted by Adam Ant, over the period 1977 to 1982. The first, founded in May 1977 and known simply as The Ants until November of that year, transitioned from the punk rock to the post-punk and new wave era and released one album. The final line-up of this incarnation—Dave Barbarossa, Matthew Ashman, and Leigh Gorman—left the band in January 1980 at the suggestion of manager Malcolm McLaren to form Bow Wow Wow. The second incarnation of Adam and the Ants featured guitarist Marco Pirroni and drummer/producer Chris Hughes, and was noted for its use of Burundi drums. Marius Constant (7 February 192515 May 2004) was a Romanian-born French composer and conductor. Although known in the classical world primarily for his ballet scores, his most widely known music was the iconic guitar theme for ''The Twilight Zone'' American television series. Career Constant was born in Bucharest, Romania, and studied piano and composition at the Bucharest Conservatory, receiving the George Enescu Award in 1944. In 1946, he moved to Paris, studying at the Conservatoire de Paris with Olivier Messiaen, Tony Aubin, Arthur Honegger and Nadia Boulanger. His compositions earned several prizes. Neal X (born Neal Whitmore) was the guitarist with the British band Sigue Sigue Sputnik. They had a No. 3 UK hit single with "Love Missile F1-11" in 1986. He has also worked as a sideman for Adam Ant and Marc Almond. Whitmore founded the Montecristos who released their debut album ''Born to Rock 'N' Roll'' in 2015. Anthony Eric James (born 12 April 1953) is an English pop musician and record producer, who was the bassist for the 1970s–1980s bands Generation X, Sigue Sigue Sputnik and the Sisters of Mercy. Early life Tony James was born in Shepherd's Bush in West London on 12 April 1953, and spent his childhood years in Twickenham. After formal education at Hampton Grammar School he attended Brunel University, from which he graduated with first-class honours in mathematics and computer science. "Love Missile F1-11" is the debut single by British band Sigue Sigue Sputnik, released in 1986 from their debut album '' Flaunt It''. It was the band's biggest hit, reaching number three on the UK Singles Chart. The track was produced by Giorgio Moroder, after Prince rejected a request to oversee production, complaining the track was "too violent." The band approached Moroder due to his work on a number of Hollywood film scores, as well as his early Donna Summer records, with the latter inspiring the band's trademark repetitive, synthetic bass sound. Style The song features vocals with high echo and uses multiple sound effects to create a futuristic atmosphere. "There Is No Love Between Us Anymore" is a song by Pop Will Eat Itself released on 7" and 12" vinyl in 1988, as the second single from the 1987 album ''Box Frenzy''. An eight-track CD version featuring a small collection of non-album tracks was released in 1991. It is a mainly instrumental track, and the only lyrics that are not sampled are the title of the song. It samples the songs "When I Fall in Love" by Nat King Cole and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers. A sample of Joanna Lumley saying "he loves me, he loves me not" from '' The New Avengers'' is prominent throughout the song, and the line would be revisited in Pop Will Eat Itself's 1989 song "Wise Up! Sucker."
