Box 13
''Box 13'' is a syndicated radio drama about the escapades of newspaperman-turned-mystery novelist Dan Holiday, played by film star Alan Ladd. Created by Ladd's company, Mayfair Productions, ''Box 13'' aired in different cities over different dates and times. It first aired in several United States radio markets in October 1947. Synopsis To seek out new ideas for his fiction, Holiday ran a classified ad in the ''Star-Times'' newspaper where he formerly worked: "Adventure wanted, will go anywhere, do anything – write Box 13, Star-Times". The stories followed Holiday's adventures when he responded to the letters sent to him by such people as a psycho killer and various victims. William Leslie (actor)
William Leslie (May 27, 1925 – December 19, 2005) was an American film and television actor. Born in Seagraves, Texas. Leslie attended at University of Colorado. He served in the United States Navy during World War II for which Leslie served for three years. He began his career in 1952, where Leslie co-starred in the film '' Scorching Fury'' alongside actors, Richard Devon and Sherwood Price. He then appeared in the 1953 film '' Forever Female''. Leslie appeared in two films from 1955 with actress, Lucy Marlow. Vagrancy is the condition of homelessness without regular employment or income. Sandhog
Sandhog is the slang term given to urban miners and construction workers who work underground on a variety of excavation projects in New York City, and later other cities. Generally these projects involve tunneling, caisson excavation, road building, or some other type of underground construction or mining projects. The miners work with a variety of tools including using tunnel boring machines and explosives to remove material for the project they are building. The term sandhog is an American colloquialism. Starting with their first job in 1872, the Brooklyn Bridge, the "hogs" have built a large part of the New York City infrastructure including the subway tunnels and sewers, Water Tunnels No. 1 and No. 2 as well as the currently under construction Water Tunnel No. 3, the Lincoln, Holland, Queens-Midtown, and Brooklyn-Battery tunnels. Shanghaiing or crimping is the practice of kidnapping people to serve as sailors by coercive techniques such as trickery, intimidation, or violence. Those engaged in this form of kidnapping were known as ''crimps''. The related term ''press gang'' refers specifically to impressment practices in Great Britain's Royal Navy. Etymology The verb "shanghai" joined the lexicon with "crimping" and "sailor thieves" in the 1850s, possibly because Shanghai was a common destination of the ships with abducted crews.
