Bowen University
Bowen University is a private Baptist Christian Nigerian university located at Iwo in Osun State, Nigeria, and is housed in the old 1,300-acre (6 km²) campus of the Baptist College, a teacher-training institution on a hill just outside the city. It is affiliated with the Nigerian Baptist Convention. History The University was founded on 17 July 2001 by the Nigerian Baptist Convention. The Federal Government of Nigeria approved the establishment of the university and it was subsequently licensed to operate by the National Universities Commission. A Provisional Governing Council was inaugurated on 22 August 2001, with Professor J.T. Okedara as Vice Chancellor and Mr E. A. Lawale as Registrar. Academic activity started on 4 November 2002, with 500 students admitted into the Faculties of Agriculture, Science, Science Education, and Social and Management Sciences. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole
Joshua Ogunwole was born in Ibadan on 23 July 1967. He is a Nigerian soil scientist who served as the 4th substantive vice-chancellor of Bowen University. Education and career Ogunwole has his first, second and third degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Between the year 1990 - 1992, he served as manager of Yula farm, Kaduna. Ogunwole taught in the department of Crop Production and Protection, Federal University, Dutsin-Ma between Dec 2013 - Mar 2016, and served as Director of the University Advancement and Linkages. National Universities Commission
The National Universities Commission (NUC) is a government commission for promoting quality higher education in Nigeria. Situated in Abuja, it was established in 1962 as an advisory agency in the cabinet office. In 1974, it became a statutory body and its first executive secretary was professor Jibril Aminu. NUC is currently part of the Federal Ministry of Education and is a parastatal (government-owned corporation). The commission has a governing council, currently headed by professor Shehu Galadanchi and its executive secretary is prof. Abubakar Rasheed, who assumed office on 3 August 2016. Iwo is a City in Osun State, Nigeria.
