Botswana Tennis Association
The Botswana Tennis Association (BoTA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in Botswana. Botswana is ranked in the top 15 nations in African tennis. The BoTA is affiliated to both International Tennis Federation and Confederation of African Tennis. History Botswana competed in its first Fed Cup in 1995. Their best result was fourth place in its Group II pool in 2002 and 2003. Tapiwa Marobela has recorded the highest number of wins for the Botswana Fed Cup team, six wins from 13 singles matches and two wins from 11 doubles matches between 2001 and 2004, before she attended Florida State University from 2004 to 2008. Botswana competed in its first Davis Cup in 1996. Botswana Tennis Association also participated in 2014 African Youth Games held in Gaborone, Botswana. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. International Tennis Federation
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the governing body of world tennis, wheelchair tennis, and beach tennis. It was founded in 1913 as the International Lawn Tennis Federation by twelve national tennis associations. As of 2016, there are 211 national and six regional associations that make up ITF's membership. Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) (french: Confédération Africaine de tennis ) is the continental Sports governing body, governing body of tennis in Africa. It is the non-profit private organization based in Tunis and affiliated with International Tennis Federation. Gaborone
Gaborone ( , , ) is the capital and largest city of Botswana with a population of 246,325 based on the 2022 census, about 10% of the total population of Botswana. 2014 African Youth Games
The 2nd African Youth Games took place in Gaborone, Botswana's capital city from 22 to 31 May 2014. The Games featured approximately 2000 athletes from 51 African countries competing in 21 sports. Gambia, Eritrea and Mauritania were the only African countries absent from the Games. The Botswana African Youth Games Organising Committee (BAYGOC) was charged with organising the Games and was headed by Regina Sikalesele Vaka as Chairman while Tuelo Daniel Serufho led the Secretariat as its chief executive officer. The Games were largely perceived as a success and helped boost the profile of certain sports. The Botswana Davis Cup team represents Botswana in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Botswana Tennis Association. They have not competed since 2017. Sports in Botswana is diverse and reasonably well-developed. Though football, netball and athletics remain the most popular sports, numerous other sporting codes, including cricket, rugby, judo, swimming and tennis are active in the national sporting landscape. The Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC), together with the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) and Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) are responsible for the overall management of sport in the country.
