Borðeyri
Borðeyri () is a hamlet in Húnaþing vestra municipality of the Westfjords in northwest Iceland. It is a minor commercial centre for nearby farms. The population on 15 July 2018 was 16. Borðeyri was previously part of the municipality Bæjarhreppur, which was one of the smallest in Iceland – having a population of about 100 in 2010 – and covered the west part of Hrútafjörður fjord. Bæjarhreppur merged into Húnaþing vestra on 1 January 2012. In Borðeyri, there is a pre-school and an elementary school, a garage, and a guesthouse. Prime Minister Sigurdur Eggerz and the painters Þorvaldur Skúlason and Karl Kvaran were born in Borðeyri. Borðeyri became a licensed trading place in 1846 and remained so until the 21st century. In the second half of the 19th century, Borðeyri became a very important seaport of the time. Hrútafjörður
Hrútafjörður () is a fjord in the north-west of Iceland. It is around 36 km long and lies to the south of Húnaflói (, ) is a bay of the Iceland Sea in Northwestern Region (Iceland), Northwestern Region and Westfjords, Iceland. Karl Kvaran
Karl Kvaran (November 17, 1924 – August 9, 1989) was an Icelandic painter and draughtsman. He is considered one of the principal exponents of the geometric abstractionist school of painting in Iceland in the early sixties. Húnaþing Vestra
Húnaþing vestra () is a municipality located in northern Iceland by Húnaflói gulf. It was founded on 7 June 1998 by the merging of all 7 of the old rural municipalities of Vestur-Húnavatnssýsla. They were: Staðarhreppur, Fremri-Torfustaðahreppur, Ytri-Torfustaðahreppur, Kirkjuhvammshreppur, Hvammstangahreppur, Þverárhreppur and Þorkelshólshreppur. On 1 January 2012, the municipality was merged with the county of Bæjarhreppur (Strandasýslu), Bæjarhreppur but kept the name Húnaþing vestra. Húnaþing vestra consists of the three fjords Hrútafjörður og Miðfjörður, and Húnafjörður. Between are the peninsulas of Heggstaðanes and Vatnsnes. Riis Houses
The Jacob Riis Houses are a public housing project managed by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) in the East Village in New York City. The project is located between Avenue D and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive, spanning two superblocks from 6th Street to 13th Street. The project consists of thirteen buildings, between six and 14 stories each, containing 1,191 apartment units. Development The area to become the Riis houses was destroyed through urban renewal beginning in August 1943 but construction was delayed because of World War II. The Riis Houses were completed on January 17, 1949 and named for photographer Jacob Riis, who exposed the living conditions of tenement dwellers on the Lower East Side.
