Bornem (, old spelling: ''Bornhem'') is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises the village of Bornem proper, Hingene, and Weert, and . There are also the hamlets of Branst, Buitenland, Eikevliet and Wintam. In 2021, Bornem had a total population of 21,428. The total area is 45.76 km². Arrondissement Of Mechelen
The Arrondissement of Mechelen ( nl, Arrondissement Mechelen; french: Arrondissement de Malines) is one of the three administrative arrondissements in the Province of Antwerp, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement, as the territory for both coincides. History The Arrondissement of Mechelen was created in 1800 as the third arrondissement in the Department of Deux-Nèthes ( nl, Departement Twee Nethen). Temse
Temse (; french: Tamise ) is a municipality in East Flanders, Belgium. The name Temse is derived from the Gallo-Roman/Gaul Tamisiacum or Tamasiacum. This is also reflected in the French name for the town, Tamise. The main sights include the Church of Our Lady, whose steeple was designed by the famous sculptor Adriaan Nijs, who died in Temse, and who also sculpted the wooden pulpit. Inside the church the relics of Amalberga of Temse are venerated. Close by stands the old "Gemeentehuis" (town hall), built in Flemish Eclectic style, housing a carillon in its main tower. Dodentocht
The Dodentocht (Dutch for March of the Dead) is a long-distance march of 100 kilometers organized annually in Bornem, Belgium, since 1970. The grueling march derives its name from the length of the march and the rough and forested terrain. At the 2016 edition, 12,608 participants had registered. A scouting group also organises a campsite for the participants; the campsite can hold 500 people that want to arrive earlier. History In 45 years the Dodentocht has become one of the most important hiking happenings in Europe. It began in 1970 with 65 participants and has since grown into an event with over 13,000 hikers. Marchers have come from many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. The Dodentocht is organised by the non profit organisation 100 km Dodentocht® Kadee Bornem. Belgian National Road Race Championships
The Belgian National Road Race Championship is a cycling race which decides who will become Belgian national champion for the year to come. The record for most wins is currently held by one of the most successful Belgian sprinters, Tom Steels, who managed to take four road championship titles. The winners of each event are awarded with a symbolic cycling jersey, which is black, yellow and red, like the national flag. Marc Van Ranst (born 20 June 1965) is a Belgian public health doctor and Professor of Virology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Leuven, Belgium) and the Rega Institute for Medical Research. On 1 May 2007, he was appointed as ''Interministerial comissionar'' by the Belgian federal government to prepare Belgium for an influenza pandemic. Don Pedro Coloma (died 27 December 1621), Baron of Bornhem and Lord of Bobadilla, was a Spanish officer in the Army of Flanders who established a noble line in the Habsburg Netherlands, a branch of the famous House of Coloma.
