Arrondissement Of Mechelen
The Arrondissement of Mechelen ( nl, Arrondissement Mechelen; french: Arrondissement de Malines) is one of the three administrative arrondissements in the Province of Antwerp, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement, as the territory for both coincides. History The Arrondissement of Mechelen was created in 1800 as the third arrondissement in the Department of Deux-Nèthes ( nl, Departement Twee Nethen). It originally comprised the cantons of Duffel, Heist-op-den-Berg, Lier, Mechelen and Puurs. In 1977, the then municipality of Muizen was added to the arrondissement from the Arrondissement of Leuven, and was merged into the City of Mechelen. Per 1 January 2019, the municipalities of Puurs and Sint-Amands merged into the new municipality of Puurs-Sint-Amands. Sint-Katelijne-Waver (, old spelling: ''Kathelijne-Waver''; french: Wavre-Sainte-Catherine, ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises the towns of Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Waver and Sint-Katelijne-Waver proper. In 2021, Sint-Katelijne-Waver had a total population of 21,197. The total area is 36.12 km2. Putte () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality includes the towns of Putte, Beerzel, and the hamlets and . The town of Putte is around east of Mechelen. Nijlen
Nijlen () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises the towns of , Kessel and Nijlen proper. In 2021, Nijlen had a total population of 22,985. The total area is 39.09 km2. History In 1770, a hoard of golden coins dating from Julius Caesar to Titus Flavius Domitianus was discovered. Nijlen was first mentioned in 1146 as having possessions of Tongerlo Abbey. The village was damaged during the Reformation and nearly depopulated. In the 18th century, there was a population increase which accelerated after the railway station on the line from Antwerp to Herentals opened in 1853. Puurs-Sint-Amands () is a municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp that arose on 1 January 2019 from the merging of the municipalities of Puurs and Sint-Amands. The merged municipality has an area of 48.99 km2 and has a population of 26,208 people as of 2021.
