Borgund Municipality (Møre Og Romsdal)
Borgund is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1968. The area is now part of Ålesund Municipality in the Traditional districts of Norway, traditional district of Sunnmøre. The administrative centre of the municipality was at Borgund, near the church, along the Nørvasundet strait. Borgund originally encompassed the large area north of the Storfjorden (Sunnmøre), Storfjorden and south of the Grytafjorden, from the mainland areas in the eastern part of today's Ålesund Municipality to the islands of today's Giske Municipality and the ocean in the west. The city of Ålesund was located in the central part of Borgund, however, the city itself was not part of Borgund, and it was governed separately. Sunnmøre
Sunnmøre (, ) is the southernmost traditional district of the western Norwegian county of Møre og Romsdal. Its main city is Ålesund. The region comprises the municipalities () of Fjord, Giske, Hareid, Herøy, Sande, Haram, Stranda Municipality, Sula, Sykkylven, Ulstein, Vanylven, Volda, Ørsta, and Ålesund. Though it is one of the three traditional districts in Møre og Romsdal, Sunnmøre is home to more than half the population of the county—with 141,755 residents, or about 54% of the population of the county. The district is made up of mainland as well as several large islands such as Gurskøy and Hareidlandet, plus many small islands. While Sunnmøre has no formal administration, many national organizations chose to have separate divisions for Sunnmøre. Tørla
Tørla is a small island in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It has bridge connections to the neighboring islands of Humla (to the west) and to Uksenøya (to the east). The island is located in the inner part of the Borgundfjorden, south of the village of Spjelkavik and just north of the island of Sula. The island was part of the old Borgund Municipality from 1838 until 1968, when Borgund was merged into Ålesund Municipality. ''Grendahuset'' is a former school that is now a community hall that is situated in the middle part of the island. Valderøya
Valderøya is an island off the west coast of Norway. It is part of Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county. The island had 4,153 residents in 2017. The island is connected to the city of Ålesund to the south via the Valderøy Tunnel to the island of Ellingsøya and then by the Ellingsøy Tunnel to the city of Ålesund. Valderøya is also connected to the island Vigra to the north by a short bridge. It is also connected to the island of Giske to the west by the Giske Bridge. The municipal administration, a dentist, and a healthcare service centre for children are found in the municipal hall at Valderhaugstrand, a village on the south side of the island. Godøya
Godøya is an island in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island is famous for its beautiful nature, dominated by the tall mountain ''Storhornet'' and the large lake ''Alnesvatnet''. The island had 1,151 residents in 2019. Most of the population lives on the southeastern side of the island in the villages of Godøy and Leitebakk, although the small fishing village of Alnes, with the old Alnes Lighthouse, is located on the north side of the island about away via a tunnel through the tall mountain ''Sloktinden''. Godøy Chapel is located on the southern coast of the island. There is a lot of cultivated farm land along the shores. Fishing and fish processing are the main industries for the island. Giske is an island in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It covers an area of . It is flat, with the highest point above mean sea level. The island is connected by the Giske Bridge to the neighbouring island of Valderøya to the east and by the Godøy Tunnel to the island of Godøya to the southwest. () was the name of a Norwegian self-governing municipality. The name was used from the establishment these municipalities in 1838 until the name fell out of use in 1863. Borgund Church
Borgund Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Borgund, just east of the city of Ålesund. It is the church for the Borgund parish which is part of the Nordre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The historic, white, stone church was built in a cruciform design around the year 1300 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church reflects both Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. The church seats about 750 people. Nørve
Nørve (or ''Nørvøya'') is an island in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is the largest of the islands containing the city center of Ålesund, the others being Aspøya and Hessa, located to the west. The island of Nørve is located south of Ellingsøya, north of Sula, and west of Uksenøya. There were 9,647 residents living on the island in 2015. Ålesund University College, the municipal hall, Volsdalen Church, and the stadium of the local association football team Aalesunds FK are located on Nørvøya.
