Robert L. Bondurant (April 27, 1933 – November 12, 2021) was an American racecar driver who raced for the Shelby American, Ferrari, and Eagle teams. Bondurant was one of the most famous drivers to emerge from the Southern California road racing scene in the 1950s, and achieved success in North America and in Europe. His Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving has been responsible for training generations of American racing drivers. Career Bondurant was born in Evanston, Illinois. During his teens, Bondurant raced an Indian motorcycle on dirt ovals. In 1956 he switched to sports car racing with a Morgan and started to attract attention when he won the West Coast "B" production Championship, in a Chevrolet Corvette winning 18 out of 20 races. Santa Barbara Chevrolet dealer Shelly Washburn hired Bondurant in 1961 to drive his #614 1959 Corvette. He played in the early National Football League for the Evansville Crimson Giants and the Chicago Bears. Before joining the Evansville Crimson Giants Bondurant worked as an insurance agent. He had previously played professional football with the Fort Wayne Friars. Robert James Bondurant (born September 8, 1978) is a former racecar driver competing the D1GP and the Formula D circuits as a part of the Drift Avengers. Bondurant has since retired from competition but still maintains an active website. He is also the grandson of legendary racecar driver Bob Bondurant and son of Bobby Bondurant. During his childhood James used to travel with his grandfather Bob Bondurant and developed a passion for racing, eventually ending up at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving teaching gokart racing and teaching drifting at the school. Joan Valerie Bondurant (1918–2006) was an American political scientist and former spy for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during World War II. She is best known as the author of ''Conquest of Violence: The Ghandian Philosophy of Conflict'' (1958), a book on Gandhian political philosophy. Early life and intelligence work Bondurant was born on 16 December 1918 in Great Bend, Kansas. She was gifted in the piano, and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in music. When World War II broke out, she learned Japanese, and was sent to work for the OSS in India, arriving in New Delhi in May, 1944.
