Bohle is a northern suburb in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the , Bohle had a population of 85 people. Geography The southern half of the suburb is predominaly occupied by the Bohle Industrial Estate (). There is a small residential area around Clay Street () and a caravan park in Ingham Road (). The northern half of the suburb is a restricted area occupied by the Bohle Transmitter Station, an Australian Defence Force facility occupying with a transmission mast () which forms part of the Modernised High Frequency Communications System. History Bohle is situated in the traditional Wulgurukaba Aboriginal country. The suburb takes its name from the Bohle River, which was named after Henry Mackinnon Bohle (1842–1923), a pioneer who brought cattle to the district in 1863. Geography Deeragun is located approximately west of the Townsville CBD. Australian Stockman's Hall Of Fame
The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame is a museum located in Longreach, Queensland, Australia, which pays tribute to pioneers of the Australian outback. The Bohle River is a river located in North Queensland, Australia. Course and features The headwaters of the river rise in the Hervey Range south of and flows north along the coastal plain west of Lake Ross and then north, parallel with Ross River. The Hervey Range Developmental Road crosses the river east of Thuringowa and then the Ingham Connection Road crosses the river west of Townsville. It then enters the Bohle River Fish Habitat Area and the Townsville Town Common Conservation Park and discharges into the Halifax Bay near Bushland Beach, and then empties into the Coral Sea. Manbarra
The Manbarra, otherwise known as the Wulgurukaba, are Aboriginal Australian people, and the traditional custodians of the Palm Islands, Magnetic Island, and an area of mainland Queensland to the west of Townsville. The Manbarra people were forcibly moved off the Palm Islands in the 1890s by the Queensland Government, and hundreds of people drawn from many Aboriginal nations on the mainland were moved to an Aboriginal reserve on Great Palm Island in 1914, becoming the Bwgcolman people, who inhabit the island today. Name The name "Wulgurukaba" translates to "canoe people". Language Wulguru/Manbarra was one of two Nyawaygic languages and constitutes the fourth class of the Herbert River languages, according to Robert M. W. Dixon. The surviving vocabulary of the Manbarra language, mainly collected by Ernest Gribble in 1932, indicates that it had a roughly 50% lexical overlap with Nyawaygi.
