Borgue, Dumfries And Galloway
Borgue (pronounced ; gd, Borgh) is a village and parish in the Kirkcudbrightshire, Stewartry of Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It lies 5 miles south-west of Kirkcudbright and 6 miles south of Gatehouse of Fleet. The name Borgue (recorded as ''Borg'' in 1469) is from Old Norse ''borg'' 'stronghold'. Borgue Parish Church was built in 1814 and designed by architect Walter Newall with alterations dating from 1897 to 1898. Due to a dwindling congregation it closed in August 2018. The churchyard contains the late C19 Gothic mausoleum of the Gordons of Earlston. According to folk tradition, Borgue was once the home of a boy who could consort with the fairy, fairies. Castle Haven dun Within the parish, near Kirkandrews, and due west of the village of Borgue, is Castle Haven, an Iron Age hill fort of uncertain date which is designated a scheduled ancient monument. Laura Bogue Luffman (1846 – 1929) was an English-born Australian writer who was active in journalism and the Women's Reform League in Sydney. Before leaving England in 1893, she wrote a number of books published by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. In 1890 her 333-page study of Swiss critic and theologian Alexander Vinet was published. Luffman met horticulturalist Carl Bogue Luffman in London in 1893. He was sixteen years her junior. They married in Melbourne at St James Cathedral on 14 December 1895. Ish Kabibble (January 19, 1908 – June 5, 1994) was an American comedian and cornet player. Early life Born Merwyn Bogue in North East, Pennsylvania, he moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, with his family a few months after his birth. Career Bogue studied law at West Virginia University, but his comedy antics soon found an audience. He appeared in ten movies between 1939 and 1950. In ''Thousands Cheer'' (1943), he appeared with Kay Kyser and sang "I Dug a Ditch," and he also appeared as a vocalist in ''That's Right—You're Wrong'' (1939), '' You'll Find Out'' (1940), and '' Playmates'' (1941). In addition, he performed with Kyser on the radio and television quiz show ''Kay Kyser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge'' in 1949 and 1950. In his 1989 autobiography, Bogue explained his stage name, which he took from the lyrics of one of his comedic songs, "Isch ga-bibble." Captain Richard Bogue (24 October 1782 – 18 October 1813) was an officer of the British Army, who commanded a Rocket Brigade company at the Battle of Leipzig, where he was killed. Biography Bogue was the youngest son of John Bogue, M.D., of Fareham, Hampshire, and was born at Titchfield, Hampshire on 24 October 1782. He entered the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich as a cadet on 31 January 1797, passing out as a second lieutenant of the Royal Artillery on 14 July 1798. He was then promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 10 February 1800 and became a second captain on 18 March 1806. He was appointed to 'A' Troop Royal Horse Artillery in 1803, and transferred to 'B' Troop in 1804. 'B' Troop was sent to Spain in 1808, reaching Corunna on 9 November.
