Boden Municipality
Boden Municipality (Swedish: ''Bodens kommun'') is a municipality in Norrbotten County in northern Sweden. Its seat is located in Boden. In 1919 the evolving garrison town of Boden was detached from Överluleå and instituted as a city municipality of its own. In 1967 the rest of Överluleå was merged into the city together with a part of Råneå. In 1971 Edefors (which in 1892 also had been detached from Överluleå) was added and the present municipality was formed. History According to recent finds, the oldest human settlements are believed to be from around 5,000 BC. From this early time nothing is known (except some scarce finds). First accounted-for sources are from the 16th century, when Boden is referred to as ''Bodebyn'' or ''Bodarna'', which may refer to the sheds (''bod'' means "shed"). Boden, Sweden
Boden (, outdatedly ) is a locality and the seat of Boden Municipality in Norrbotten County, Sweden with 16,847 inhabitants in 2018. It is part of the larger area around coastal city Luleå some southeast. After Kiruna, it is the second largest town in Northern Sweden's interior. History The town of Boden started as a railway junction where the Northern Line (''Norra stambanan'', opened 1894) met with the Ore Line (''Malmbanan'') from the rich iron ore fields in northern Sweden. The town experienced increased growth when the Boden Fortress was constructed in the beginning of the 20th century. The purpose of the fortress was to defend Sweden from a possible attack from the east, where Russia was considered the most dangerous threat. Boden Scholarship
The Boden Scholarship at the University of Oxford was established in 1833 to support students learning Sanskrit. History and scholars Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Boden, after whom the scholarship is named, served in the Bombay Native Infantry of the East India Company from 1781 until his retirement in 1807. He died on 21 November 1811, and his will provided that his estate should pass to the University of Oxford after his daughter's death to establish a professorship in Sanskrit. His daughter died in August 1827, the university accepted Boden's bequest in November 1827, and the first Boden Professor of Sanskrit was elected in 1832. Boden's bequest is also used to provide scholarships "for the encouragement of the study of, and proficiency in, the Sanskrit Language and Literature". The Norrland Engineer Battalion ( sv, Norrlands ingenjörbataljon), designation Ingbat/I 19, originally Boden Engineer Regiment ( sv, Bodens ingenjörkår), designation Ing 3, was a Swedish Army engineer unit, one of the few new formations raised in the 20th century. It was disbanded in 2005. The unit was garrisoned in Boden, Sweden. History The unit has its origins in the engineer companies created at Norrbotten Regiment in 1902. These companies became independent in 1904 as Boden Engineer Corps and gained the designation Ing 4 (4th Engineer Regiment). Boden Engineer Corps gained the new designation Ing 3 in 1937 and was upgraded to a regiment in 1975 and was renamed Boden Engineer Regiment. It was then downgraded to a battalion unit again in 1994, and was renamed Norrland Engineer Corps.
