Carlos Manuel Bocanegra (born May 25, 1979) is an American sports executive and former professional soccer player. A two-time MLS Defender of the Year, Bocanegra also played professionally in England, Scotland, France, and Spain. He earned over 100 caps with the United States, serving as captain for six years. He is currently serving as technical director and vice president for Atlanta United. Early life and education Bocanegra was born in Upland, CA on May 25, 1979, to Manuel and Kelly Bocanegra. He was raised in Alta Loma, Rancho Cucamonga, California, where he attended Alta Loma High School. He has one brother, Diego, who played soccer at Grand Canyon University, UCLA and Fresno State. Daniel Eduardo Bocanegra Ortiz (born 23 April 1987), is a Colombian footballer who plays as a centre-back for Club Nacional de Football. International On 9 November 2014, Bocanegra received his first call-up to the Colombia national team for friendlies against the United States and Slovenia. Francisco González Bocanegra
Francisco González Bocanegra (January 8, 1824 – April 11, 1861) was a Mexican poet who wrote the lyrics of the Mexican National Anthem in 1853. He was born in San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí to Spanish soldier José María González Yáñez and Francisca Bocanegra y Villalpando, sister of the Foreign Relations Secretary under President Vicente Guerrero, José María Bocanegra. Despite his father being exempted because of being married to a Mexican, in 1827, his family moved to Spain after a law was enacted expelling all remaining Spanish citizens in the country. They settled in the port of Cádiz until the family returned to San Luis Potosí on December 28, 1836. He died in 1861 and is buried in the Rotonda de las Personas Ilustres (Rotunda of Illustrious Persons) in Mexico City. Gertrudis Bocanegra
María Gertrudis Teodora Bocanegra Mendoza (11 April 1765 – 11 October 1817) was a woman who fought in the Mexican War of Independence. She was arrested, tortured and executed in 1817. Life Gertrudis Bocanegra was born in Pátzcuaro in what is now the Mexican state of Michoacán, to Pedro Javier Bocanegra and Feliciana Mendoza (d. 15 November 1783). She married Lieutenant Pedro Advíncula Lazo de la Vega, a soldier in the Spanish provincial forces of Michoacán; they had six children (two sons and four daughters). Unusually for a woman of her time, Bocanegra had read the principal authors of the Age of Enlightenment. When Mexico's War of Independence began, she was quick to take sides. Her husband and eldest son joined the forces of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla when the insurgents passed through Valladolid (now Morelia) in October 1810. José María Bocanegra
José María Bocanegra (; 25 May 1787 – 23 July 1862) was a Mexican lawyer and statesman who was briefly interim president of Mexico on December, 1829 during a coup attempt against president Vicente Guerrero. He was appointed interim president by congress while President Guerrero personally led his troops against the insurrection. Five days later the rebels stormed the National Palace and overthrew Bocanegra, upon which they set up an executive triumvirate led by Pedro Velez. Biography Bocanegra graduated from the Colegio de San Ildefonso in Mexico City, becoming a lawyer. During the colonial period he was a lawyer for the '' Audiencia'' and a member of the College of Attorneys. He was vice-president of the Committee of Charity of the Hospice for the Poor. Pérez de Bocanegra was a parish priest in this church in Andahuaylillas Juan Pérez de Bocanegra, T.O.S.F. (died 1645) was a Catholic priest and member of the Third Order of St. Francis, who was a musician, and specialist in the indigenous languages of colonial Peru. Life Pérez de Bocanegra established himself in the Viceroyalty of Peru as one of the most important experts in the local languages and ways of life. He taught Latin at the University of San Marcos in Lima before moving to Cusco. He then served as the cantor at the Cathedral of Santo Domingo there from c. 1599–1611, serving as choir-book corrector from 1598-1604, during the episcopacy of Antonio de la Raya y Navarrete. Raul Justo Bocanegra (born July 13, 1971) is an American politician, and a former member of the California State Assembly. He is a Democrat who represented the 39th Assembly District, encompassing northeastern San Fernando Valley. Bocanegra was first elected to the assembly in 2012, but was narrowly defeated in his 2014 bid for reelection by political outsider and fellow Democrat Patty Lopez. Suzanne Bocanegra is an American artist living in New York City. Her works include performance and installation art as well as visual and sound art. Her work is exhibited internationally. Career Bocanegra's work is held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Tang Teaching Museum, Delaware Art Museum, and Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Bocanegra has received a Guggenheim Fellowship (2020), Foundation for Contemporary Arts Robert Rauschenberg award (2019), and an American Academy of Arts and Letters award in art (2021). In 1991, Bocanegra received a Rome Prize for visual arts.
