Bobsleigh At The 2006 Winter Olympics – Two-man
The Men's two-man bobsleigh competition at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy was held on 18 and 19 February, at Cesana Pariol. Records While the IOC does not consider bobsled times eligible for Olympic records, the FIBT does maintain records for both the start and a complete run at each track it competes. Prior to this competition, the existing Cesana Pariol track records were as follows. The following track records were established during this event. The Russian team of Zubkov and Voevoda equalled the track record set just two sleds earlier by Annen and Hefti, but this tie was short-lived; Lange and Kuske, the next team down, broke it by 0.26 seconds. Results Each of the 29 two-man teams entered for the event completed the first three runs, and the top 20 qualified for the final run. Cesana Pariol
Cesana Pariol was the venue for bobsleigh, luge and skeleton during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The track, built for the games, is located in Cesana. The venue holds approximately 7,130 spectators, of whom 3,624 are seated. Construction details The track is constructed with about of ammonia refrigeration pipes to help form ice on the track for proper sliding. Numerous sensors located along the track ensure that the ice's thickness is kept between to keep the track properly smooth during competitions. History During construction of the track prior to the 2006 games, there was concern that the track would be completed in time for homologation. Pavle Jovanovic (bobsledder)
Pavle Jovanovic (January 11, 1977May 3, 2020) was an American bobsledder of Serbian origin who had competed since 1997. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he finished seventh both in the two-man event and in the four-man event. Although on the U.S. Bobsled team in 2002, he was disqualified from competing due to the presence of prohibited substances from food supplements, which he claimed were taken without his knowledge or intent. Jovanovic won a bronze medal in the four-man event at the 2004 FIBT World Championships in Königssee. In 2011, Jovanovic started to compete for Serbia. He was one of the best pushers in bobsledding, a position requiring extraordinary strength. Todd Dennys Hays (born May 21, 1969) is a former American bobsledder who competed from 1994 to 2006. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he won the silver medal in the four-man event at Salt Lake City in 2002, breaking a 46-year medal drought for the US national bobsleigh team. He also won two medals in the four-man event at the FIBT World Championships with a silver in 2003 and a bronze in 2004. He finished third four times in the Bobsleigh World Cup, earning them twice in combined men's (2003-4, 2005-6) and once each in the two-man (2005–06) and four-man events (2003–04). Daumants Dreiškens (born 28 March 1984) is a Latvian bobsledder, brakeman, who has competed since 2003. He won a gold medal in the four-man event at the FIBT World Championships 2016 in Igls, Austria with pilot Oskars Melbārdis, Arvis Vilkaste and Jānis Strenga. Jānis Miņins (born 15 August 1980 in Kuldīga) is a Latvian bobsledder who has competed since 1999. He won a bronze medal in the four-man event at the FIBT World Championships 2009 in Lake Placid, New York, earning the country its first championship medal ever. In the 2004–05 season his best placing was a sixth place in the 4-man bob in Cortina d'Ampezzo and Winterberg, both times with Juris Latiss, Ainārs Podnieks and Jānis Ozols.
