Bobcat North Dakota Open
The North Dakota Open is the North Dakota state open golf tournament, open to both amateur and professional golfers. History The inaugural event was in 1964. The event was one-round long and had a purse of $2,000. Eddie Langert of St. Paul, Minnesota shot a par-72 to win the tournament by three strokes over Corky Dahl, Herb Marcussen, and Paul O'Leary. The following year the tournament increased to two rounds long. In addition, prize money increased to $3,500 and the winner's cheque was now $600. George Shortridge shot an opening round 73 (+1) to take a one-stroke lead. He led by one over Langert and Byron Comstock. A further shot behind were a number of players including Corky Dahl and Fargo's "host pro" Jack Webb. Langert and Webb outplayed all competitors during the final round and were "deadlocked" down the stretch. However, Webb holed a 40-yard approach shot for a birdie at the par-4 18th hole to assure the win. His 70 (−2) was the only under-par round of the tournament. ... Golf
Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Mike Morley
Mike Morley (born June 17, 1946) is an American golf course architect and a former professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour for 14 years. Early life Born in Morris, Minnesota, Morley was raised there and in Minot, North Dakota, where his family later moved during his youth. He graduated from high school in La Jolla, California, in 1964 and then attended Arizona State University in Tempe and was a two-time first-team All-American on the Sun Devil golf team in 1967 and 1968. Professional career Morley won a handful of tournaments as a professional, including the satellite 1972 Magnolia State Classic, and the 1977 Ed McMahon-Jaycees Quad Cities Open; both events were opposite major championships. He had a great deal of success at the Bing Crosby Pro-Am finishing in the top-10 four times including a solo 2nd in 1976. Tom Hoge
Tom Hoge (; born May 25, 1989) is an American professional golfer. Amateur career Hoge was born in Statesville, North Carolina and grew up and still resides in Fargo, North Dakota. He played college golf at Texas Christian University where he won two events. He placed tied for third in the individual portion of the 2009 NCAA Golf Championship. He also won several North Dakota and Minnesota amateur titles. Professional career Hoge turned professional after graduating from college in 2011. Doug Dunakey
Doug Dunakey (born July 7, 1963) is an American former professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour. He is known for shooting a 59 in the 1998 Nike Miami Valley Open, becoming only the fourth player to shoot a 59 on a major tour. After his professional career, Dunakey became the golf coach at Lemon Bay High School. Professional career Dunakey joined the Nationwide Tour (then known as the Nike Tour) in 1998. Dunakey shot a 59 in the second round of the Nike Miami Valley Open. Dunakey could have shot a 57; but he three putted the 18th hole. Bill Israelson
Bill Israelson (born February 21, 1957) is an American professional golfer. Israelson had an exemplary amateur career, culminating with three consecutive victories at the Minnesota State Amateur in the late 1970s. He struggled in making it onto the PGA Tour, however, failing in four consecutive attempts at q-school. In the interim he played primarily on the Asia Golf Circuit, recording a win at the 1985 Thailand Open. Shortly thereafter, Israelson made it onto the PGA Tour but he did not have much success, playing for only two seasons on tour, missing the cut in the majority of his events and recording only one top ten. For the remainder of his career, Israelson primarily worked as a club pro though still played in some well-publicized midwestern events, notably winning the Minnesota Senior PGA Professional Championship six times. Jim Ahern (golfer)
James Russell Ahern (born February 26, 1949) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. Ahern was born in Duluth, Minnesota. He attended Oklahoma State University and turned professional in 1972. He toiled in relative obscurity on the PGA Tour in the 1970s, never finishing higher than ninth in 60 tournaments. He lost his card at the end of the 1975 season. Ahern became the head pro at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club in 1980 and five years later founded Executive Golf Ltd., a golf concierge firm that arranges weekend golf instruction retreats for high-end and Fortune 500 clients. Barton Holan Bryant (November 18, 1962 – May 31, 2022) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions. Early life Bryant was born in Gatesville, Texas, the son of a Baptist pastor. He attended New Mexico State University, where he was a two-time All-American as a member of the golf team. Professional career Bryant turned professional in 1986. Bryant did not win on the PGA Tour until his 187th start, the 2004 Valero Texas Open. Jeff Coston (born October 15, 1955) is an American professional golfer. Biography Coston cites watching Jack Nicklaus tee off in the 1965 Greater Seattle Open Invitational at Inglewood Country Club as the moment he realized he wanted to dedicate his life to golf. He joined the PGA Tour in 1985. That year at the Buick Invitational Championship, a 14-year-old Phil Mickelson carried the scoreboard for the playing threesome of Coston, Steve Pate and Chris Perry. Joel Ashley Edwards (born November 22, 1961) is an American professional golfer. Early life Edwards was born in Dallas, Texas. He attended North Texas State University. Tony Grimes (born April 8, 2002) is an American football cornerback who will play for the Michigan State Spartans. He had played for three seasons at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before transferring to Texas A&M after the 2022 season.
