Bobby Smith (activist)
Bobby Smith (born February 1982) is a British political and fathers' rights activist. He is the founder and leader of the Give Me Back Elmo party which he set up to seek to change the law in family courts after his own experiences. Political activity Smith stood in the Witney constituency for the Give Me Back Elmo party in the 2015 general election. He and the party received media coverage as Smith and two other members of the party waited with placards to greet the Prime Minister David Cameron at the polling station where he cast his vote on election day (7 May 2015), and Smith appeared while dressed as Elmo at the vote count in numerous photos with the Prime Minister and behind him on the stage. Smith ultimately finishing tenth of twelve candidates, with 37 votes (0.1%). Smith stood in the Chells ward at the 2016 Stevenage Borough Council election, receiving 23 votes. Enfield is a large town in north London, England, north of Charing Cross. It had a population of 156,858 in 2018. Gloucester
Gloucester ( ) is a cathedral city and the county town of Gloucestershire in the South West of England. Woman To Woman (campaign)
Woman to Woman, known in the media as Harriet Harman's Pink Bus, was a political campaign in the United Kingdom for the Labour Party at the 2015 general election. It was led by Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Harriet Harman, and involved a pink battle bus visiting marginal constituencies, promoting Labour policies and rallying support among female voters. It was described by Labour as the party's "biggest ever women's campaign". The Pink Bus was criticised in the media as "sexist and patronising". The campaign was regarded a failure for the Labour Party, which polled well below expectations in the general election, winning 30.4 per cent of the vote and 232 seats, 24 fewer than its previous result in 2010. Despite this, the voter turnout was 1 per cent higher than 2010, and the overall number of female Labour MPs increased from 81 to 99. Harriet Harman
Harriet Ruth Harman (born 30 July 1950) is a British politician and solicitor who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Camberwell and Peckham, formerly Peckham, since 1982. A member of the Labour Party, she has served in various Cabinet and Shadow Cabinet positions. Born in London to a doctor and a barrister, Harman was privately educated at St Paul's Girls' School before going on to study politics at the University of York. New Fathers 4 Justice is a UK-based direct action fathers' rights group campaigning for the rights of fathers to see their children. It is a splinter group of Fathers 4 Justice. History New Fathers 4 Justice (NF4J) is a fathers' rights group. It was founded in September 2008 by activists, who were left awaiting trial when Fathers 4 Justice was shut down by Matt O'Connor. The first protest was held on 19 September 2008 in Bristol, at the constituency office of Labour MP and Health Minister Dawn Primarolo. The protest was motivated by Primarolo's support of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act of 2008. The group still use Superhero costumes and comic characters in their direct action protests. Jonathan Watkins
Jonathan Watkins (born 1957) is an English curator, and the former Director of the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Watkins emigrated to Australia with his family in 1969 and studied Philosophy and History of Art at the University of Sydney. He is the older brother of Philip Watkins, renowned artist and musician. He was curator at the Chisenhale Gallery in London in the early 1990s. Watkins later worked at the Serpentine Gallery from 1985 to 1997 as the institution's curator, and worked in a curatorial freelance capacity for the Biennale of Sydney in 1998. The Ikon Gallery () is an English gallery of contemporary art, located in Brindleyplace, Birmingham. It is housed in the Grade II listed, neo-gothic former Oozells Street Board School, designed by John Henry Chamberlain in 1877. Ikon was set up to encourage the public to engage in contemporary art. As a result, the gallery delivers an off-site Education and Interpretation scheme to educate audiences, and to promote artists and their work. The gallery is open every day of the week except Mondays, though it opens on bank holiday Mondays. A Real Birmingham Family
''A Real Birmingham Family'' is a public artwork and sculpture by Gillian Wearing, cast in bronze, and erected in Centenary Square, outside the Library of Birmingham, England, on 30 October 2014. It depicts two local sisters, each single mothers called Roma and Emma Jones, with their two children; Roma's son Kyan and Emma's son Shaye. Emma is depicted as pregnant with a second son, Isaac, who was born before the sculpture was unveiled. A small plaque laid on the ground in front of the work describes it. In a process begun in 2011, and coordinated by the city's Ikon Gallery, nominations for a "real" local family to model for the sculpture were invited.
