Bobby Black (Scottish Footballer)
Bobby Black (c.1927 – 4 June 2012) was a Scottish footballer from Thornhill, Dumfries and Galloway who played for East Fife and Queen of the South and was also capped by the Scottish League. Black later was an all England bowls champion. East Fife Having played at East Fife during undoubtedly the best period in the club's history Black won a League Cup medal with them in 1949–50. The Methil side made the Scottish Cup final that season and finished fourth in Scotland's top division. Two seasons later (Bobby Black's last at the club) they would surpass this league position and finish third – an achievement unsurpassed by the club and equalled only once. Other players at the club in this era included 1938 Scottish Cup winners with East Fife Tommy Adams and Willie Laird and players who played for Scotland while with the club, Allan Brown, Henry Morris, George Aitken, Davie Duncan, Charlie Fleming and Andy Matthew. Jimmy Binning
James Binning (21 December 1922 – 1991) was a Scottish footballer who played for Arbroath and Dumfries side Queen of the South. Career From the season 1948–1949 until his departure, Binning scored six goals in his 84 league games for Arbroath. Binning was a 1951 signing from Arbroath for Queen of the South. Half a century later another distinguished player would make the same journey, Jim Thomson. Binning gave Queens seven years service at full-back, playing 288 senior games for Queens. When Binning arrived at Queens already there were Scotland cap Billy Houliston, goalkeeper Roy Henderson, fellow full back Dougie Sharpe and forward Jim Patterson (251 strikes makes Patterson the goals king of Queens). Dougie Sharpe
Dougie Sharpe (1926–1974) was a Scottish footballer who played for Queen of the South from the town of Dumfries. Early years Dougie Sharpe was a native of New Abbey. He played for St Michael's Primary School team in Dumfries and then Dumfries Academy before joining local amateur side Greystone Rovers. In the last football season before World War II Sharpe joined Queen of the South on amateur forms. However the war meant his football career was put on hold as he joined the RAF serving in North Africa. Queen of the South Sharpe re-joined Queens in 1946 after World War Two ended on professional forms. Sharpe was one of the finest full backs to have played for the football club. Sharpe always played with great passion and gave 100%. He debuted at left half but was soon switched to the position that he is always remembered for at right full back. Roy Donald Henderson (7 June 1923 – 16 January 1997) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper, best known for his time with Dumfries club Queen of the South. Stephen Dobbie (born 5 December 1982) is a Scottish former professional footballer. He is Senior Professional Development Phase coach at his former club Blackpool. Dobbie is Queen of the South's second-highest goalscorer of all time (166 goals) and the club's record scorer for a single season (43 goals in the 2018-19 season). He started his career in the 2002–03 season at Rangers, followed by spells at Hibernian and St Johnstone. James Patterson (c. 1928 – 16 December 2012) was a Scottish professional footballer. Patterson is the all-time record goalscorer for Dumfries club Queen of the South, with 251 goals. Early years Patterson was playing for Luncarty in his native Perthshire, with his performances catching the attentions of onlooking scouts. One of these was from Queens, who, rather than move for the big forward, were waiting for his demob from the army. This nearly cost the Dumfries club dear. Patterson was invited to spend a weekend with Manchester City for a trial and a look around. An ex-Queens player, Jackie Oakes, was at City at the time and made arrangements for Patterson's accommodation in anticipation of his extended stay. Dumfries
Dumfries ( ; sco, Dumfries; from gd, Dùn Phris ) is a market town and former royal burgh within the Dumfries and Galloway council area of Scotland.
