Bob Town
Robert Frederick "Bob" Town (born October 4, 1949) was a member of the Canadian men's national basketball team between 1972 and 1976. Canada finished fourth at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Town graduated from Churchill High School. He played college basketball at the University of Manitoba from 1967 and 1972 and was named a CIAU All-Canadian in 1972. As a member of the national team, Town participated in various European tournaments, the World University Games in Moscow, the Pan Am Games, and the Montreal Olympics. Town was a member of the St. Andrews Super Saints which won the Canadian Senior Men's Championship both in 1975 and 1976. Canadian Men's National Basketball Team
The Canadian men's national basketball team represents Canada in international basketball competitions since 1923. They are overseen by Canada Basketball, the governing body of basketball in Canada. The team's head coach is Nick Nurse and its general manager is Rowan Barrett. In nine Olympic appearances, Canada has won one medal in basketball – a silver at the 1936 Games in Berlin. The team finished fourth in 1976 and 1984. Canada has won six medals at the FIBA AmeriCup – two silver medals in 1980 and 1999, as well as four bronze medals in 1984, 1988, 2001, and 2015. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Manitoba Sports Hall Of Fame And Museum
The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is a Canadian museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba, dedicated to honoring the history and achievements of sports in Manitoba. The organization began in 1980, and then opened a museum in The Forks in 1993. After five years, the museum moved to The Bay store on Portage Avenue. Its present-day location is the Sport Manitoba building (145 Pacific Ave.), where it had its grand opening on October 27, 2012. Exhibits of Manitoba's sports teams and honoured athletes are displayed in the museum. The Hall of Fame inducts both individuals as well as teams.
