Bob Chitty
Robert Main-Warring Chitty (4 July 1916 – 4 April 1985) was an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Alan Peter Chitty (1884-1981), and Hannah Evelyne Chitty (1887-1974), née Wilson, "Robert Mainwaring Chitty" was born at Corryong, Corryong, Victoria on 4 July 1916. He married Hazel Irene Leggo (1907-1976) on 26 April 1941. Chitty's brother Peter Chitty, Peter played VFL football for St Kilda Football Club, St Kilda. Later, as a prisoner of War in Changi Prison, Peter was awarded a "Brownlow Medal" for being the Best and Fairest player in the Changi Football League. He is the great uncle of Mona Ethel Byron. Corryong
Corryong is a small town in Victoria, Australia east of Albury-Wodonga, near the upper reaches of the Murray River and close to the New South Wales border. Ned Kelly
Edward Kelly (December 1854 – 11 November 1880) was an Australian bushranger, outlaw, gang leader and convicted police-murderer. One of the last bushrangers, he is known for wearing a suit of bulletproof armour during his final shootout with the police. Kelly was born in the then- British colony of Victoria as the third of eight children to Irish parents. His father, a transported convict, died shortly after serving a six-month prison sentence, leaving Kelly, then aged 12, as the eldest male of the household. The Kellys were a poor selector family who saw themselves as downtrodden by the Squattocracy and as victims of persecution by the Victoria Police. While a teenager, Kelly was arrested for associating with bushranger Harry Power and served two prison terms for a variety of offences, the longest stretch being from 1871 to 1874 on a conviction of receiving a stolen horse. Bushranger
Bushrangers were originally escaped convicts in the early years of the British settlement of Australia who used the bush as a refuge to hide from the authorities. By the 1820s, the term had evolved to refer to those who took up "robbery under arms" as a way of life, using the bush as their base. Bushranging thrived during the gold rush years of the 1850s and 1860s when the likes of Ben Hall, Bluecap, and Captain Thunderbolt roamed the country districts of New South Wales. These " Wild Colonial Boys", mostly Australian-born sons of convicts, were roughly analogous to British "highwaymen" and outlaws of the American Old West, and their crimes typically included robbing small-town banks and coach services. North East Football Union
The North Eastern Football Union (NEFU) was an Australian Rules football competition in North-Eastern Tasmania, Australia. History Competition football began in North-Eastern Tasmania in the early 1900s during the region's tin mining boom. There were many small associations existing in the area from Scottsdale to Goulds Country, with the many varying changes to the region during the twentieth century it had a resultant effect on the football scene. After the NEFU formed in 1938, the competition ran until it was suspended during World War Two, football resumed in 1945. The governing body reformed under the guidance of Harry Horsburg as Secretary and George De Haas as president. The North Eastern Football Union clubs in that era were Branxholm, Derby, Legerwood, Pioneer, Ringarooma and Winnaleah. Northern Tasmanian Football Association (1886–1986)
The Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) was an Australian rules football competition which ran from 1886 to 1986. In its time it was one of the three main leagues in Tasmania, with the Tasmanian Football League and North West Football Union representing the rest of the state. It was based in the city of Launceston. The three most successful clubs of the old NTFA, Launceston, North Launceston and City-South, went on to compete in the short-lived TFL Statewide League. From 1947 to 1983 the NTFA was a six team competition, in 1984 George Town and Deloraine joined to make eight teams. In 1987, the NTFA merged with the North West Football Union to form the Northern Tasmanian Football League. Scottsdale Football Club
The Scottsdale Football Club is an Australian rules football club which competed in the old Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) between 1948 and 1986. Scottsdale joined the Northern Tasmanian Football League in 1987. For financial reasons, Scottsdale could no longer field a team in the NTFL and in 2000 switched to the new NTFA, an amateur competition which had been formed four years earlier. Scottsdale, nicknamed ''The Magpies'', currently play in a competition of the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (formed 1996). The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, Australia, Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia, New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. 1946 VFL Season
The 1946 VFL season was the 50th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 20 April until 5 October, and comprised a 19-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The league's thirds/under-19s competition played its inaugural season. The premiership was won by the Essendon Football Club for the eighth time, after it defeated by 63 points in the 1946 VFL Grand Final.
