Bo-Day-Shus!!!
''Bo-Day-Shus!!!'' is the third album by Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper, released in 1987. It contains the song "Elvis is Everywhere," which became an MTV hit. The album peaked at #189 on the ''Billboard'' 200. Production Skid Roper wrote and sang two songs on the album, "The Polka Polka" and "Lincoln Logs." Critical reception Kiernan McCarthy of AllMusic praised the album's humor, writing that "not every joke Mojo Nixon lets fly on ''Bo-Day-Shus!!!'' is a knee-slapper, but one cannot deny his persistence. If you don't like the first quip, he might catch you on the second one, or the tenth." He specifically referred to "Elvis is Everywhere" and "I Ain't Gonna Piss In No Jar" as the best examples of this. Robert Christgau also appreciated "Elvis is Everywhere," comparing it to the music of Phil Ochs, but was critical of several of the other tracks, especially Roper's contribution "Lincoln Logs." Mojo Nixon
Mojo Nixon (born Neill Kirby McMillan, Jr.; August 2, 1957) is an American musician and actor best known for his humorous, irreverent Novelty song "Elvis Is Everywhere" which was an alternative staple on MTV. His style can generally be defined as psychobilly, a musical genre which blends rockabilly with punk rock. Nixon has largely retired from playing live and recording, and currently hosts the "Loon In The Afternoon" radio show on Sirius XM. Early career Nixon was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He paired with Skid Roper in the early 1980s in San Diego. Roper mostly provided instrumental backup to Nixon's lyrics. Nixon and Roper released their first album in 1985 on Enigma Records, '' Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper''. The song "Jesus at McDonald's" from that album was the duo's first single. Skid Roper
Skid Roper (born Richard Banke, October 19, 1954, in National City, California, United States) is an American musician, most active in the 1980s and early 1990s. He has recorded with several groups including the surf band The Evasions, but is best known for his work with Mojo Nixon between 1985 and 1989. With Nixon, Roper served mainly as an instrumentalist. He commonly played instruments such as the washboard and the mandolin. Since parting ways with Nixon in 1989, Roper has released three solo albums. The first two albums had a much stronger country influence, and were considerably less raucous than his work with Nixon. Roper also formed a surf band called Skid Roper and the Shadowcasters. Roper's latest CD, ''Rock and Roll Part 3'', was released in 2010. Ten years in the making, Roper plays guitar, mandolin, organ, harmonica, percussion and whistling, sings each track and wrote all but one song. ''Frenzy'' is the second album by Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper, released in 1986. The album was re-released on CD in 1987, with the EP '' Get Out Of My Way!'' added to the end. The CD uses the ''Get Out of My Way!'' mix of "Stuffin' Martha's Muffin," which filters the telephone conversation part of Nixon's opening monologue to sound like he is talking on the phone, instead of the original ''Frenzy'' LP mix. "Transylvanian Xmas" is a version of "Joy to the World," performed by Roper on harmonica with the melody tweaked to sound spooky; Nixon plays bongos. "Jesus at McDonalds" is a newer recording of the song from their first LP, '' Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper''. Root Hog Or Die (album)
''Root Hog or Die'' is an album by the American musicians Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper, released in 1989. It was the duo's final studio album. Nixon originally wanted to call it ''Bush Idiot Slime''; he took "root hog or die" from Davy Crockett's autobiography. The duo supported the album with a North American tour. ''Root Hog or Die'' sold more than 50,000 copies in its first six months of release. "Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant with My Two-Headed Love Child" was released as a single; MTV refused to air the accompanying video, which starred Winona Ryder as Gibson. The song peaked at No. 16 on ''Billboards Modern Rock Tracks chart. The video for "(619) 239-KING" includes guest appearances from the Beat Farmers, Dead Milkmen, and Kris Kristofferson. Carmaig De Forest
Carmaig de Forest (born September 9, 1957) is a singer-songwriter, mainly on the ukulele, but also the guitar, originating from Los Angeles, California. Since starting his career as a ukulele singer-songwriter, he has mostly stayed in the creative musical underground of California and Baltimore, at one time touring with the Violent Femmes, who would later play with him on his ''DeathGrooveLoveParty'' album. Perhaps his most recognized achievement was being the warm-up artist for the Ramones in the early 1980s. Daniel Monte McLain (May 11, 1955 – November 8, 1995), known by the stage name Country Dick Montana, was an American musician best known as a member of The Beat Farmers. He was born in Carmel, California. In 1995, It was reported that Montana suffered a heart attack and died while playing "The Girl I Almost Married" during a Beat Farmers show at the Longhorn Saloon in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. The cause of death has been otherwise reported by the ''San Diego Reader'' (a publication local to the home of the Beat Farmers) as having been ruled as an aneurysm. Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910January 10, 1976), better known by his stage name Howlin' Wolf, was an American blues singer and guitarist. He is regarded as one of the most influential blues musicians of all time. Over a four-decade career, he recorded in genres such as blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and psychedelic rock.
