Blue Line (TRAX)
The Blue Line is a light rail line on the TRAX system in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah, in the United States, operated by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). It is the first line of the TRAX system completed. The line opened on December 4, 1999, one year ahead of schedule after two years of construction. In addition to Salt Lake City, it also serves the communities of South Salt Lake, Murray, Midvale, Sandy and Draper. The line was known as the North/South Line or the Sandy/Salt Lake Line until color names were adopted for each TRAX line in August 2011. An extension of the line to Draper began service on August 18, 2013. As of 2019, The Utah Transport Authority has begun restoring the Siemens SD 100 and 160s that run on the line, the first restored unit placed into service on April 8, 2019. Midvale is a city in Salt Lake County, Utah, Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Salt Lake City, Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah Salt Lake City metropolitan area, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Midvale's population was 34,124 according to 2019 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. Sandy is a city in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, located in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. The population of Sandy was 87,461 at the 2010 census, making it the sixth-largest city in Utah. The population is currently estimated to be about 96,380 according to the July 1, 2019 United States Census estimates. Sandy is home to the Shops at South Town shopping mall; the Jordan Commons entertainment, office and dining complex; and the Mountain America Exposition Center. Jordan High School (also referred to as Jordan High or JHS ) is a public high school located in Sandy, Utah (United States) It is one of five high schools in the Canyons School District. The school was established in 1907, making it one of the oldest public high schools in the state of Utah. Timeline 1907–1914 Jordan High School took root when a student body of just seven students led by Weston Morley began meeting in the basement of a church in Midvale. His small group began to grow in numbers and began to give him money. The enrollment numbers quickly grew, and soon it was necessary to move the students and faculty into their first real school building. The Shops at South Town, formerly South Towne Center, is a regional shopping mall in Sandy, Utah, United States, located just east of Interstate 15 on State Street. The property, built in 1986, contains of retail space with 150 stores and restaurants. The mall currently houses multiple national retailers such as H&M, BoxLunch, Victoria Secret, Hot Topic, Buckle, Lululemon and many more. It has 4 anchor spaces with a plot for fifth that has never been built. The anchor stores are Round 1 Entertainment, HomeGoods, and JCPenney. There are two vacant anchor stores that were Forever 21 and Macy's. The mall opened in 1986 with a single anchor being ZCMI (later Meier & Frank then Macy's). JCPenney opened in 1992. Sandy Civic Center station is a light rail station in Sandy, Utah, United States serviced by the Blue Line of Utah Transit Authority's TRAX light rail system. The Blue Line provides service from Downtown Salt Lake City to Draper. Prior to the opening of the Draper extension in 2013, this station was the southernmost on the Blue Line. Kimballs Lane station is a light rail station in Draper, Utah, United States, served by the Blue Line of Utah Transit Authority's TRAX light rail system. The Blue Line provides service from Downtown Salt Lake City to downtown Draper. Description The station is located at 11796 South 700 East (SR-71) and is easily accessed off that road from either 11400 South or 12300 South (Draper Parkway). Access to the main park and ride lot (situated directly northeast of the passenger platform) is only by way of a short section of 11800 South which is directly north of the station, there is no direct access from 700 East. State Route 71 (SR-71) is a state highway completely within the Salt Lake City metropolitan area in the northern portion of the US state of Utah. The Salt Lake City Southern Railroad is a short-line railroad operating between Salt Lake City, and Murray, in Utah, United States. The SL began operating on April 19, 1993, as a RailTex subsidiary. Today the SL is a subsidiary of the Utah Railway and is owned by the Genesee & Wyoming Inc. History The line was originally built between 1871 and 1872 by the Utah Southern Railroad. The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad , often shortened to ''Rio Grande'', D&RG or D&RGW, formerly the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, was an American Class I railroad company.
