Blue (Flashlight Brown Album)
Blue is the fifth and final studio album from Flashlight Brown, released on October 31, 2006 through Union 2112 Records in Canada and Hollywood Records in Japan. Background and production The album was intended to be their second release from Hollywood Records. Work began in 2005, with two songs posted to the band's website in November, "I'm A Human" and a cover of The English Beat's " Save It for Later". The album was originally set to release on June 6, however, the band announced in July that they had left Hollywood Records due to "extreme differences of opinion", leading to the postponement of the album. On October 30, 2006, the band posted on their MySpace account that they would release the album the next day, Halloween, in Canada, with a release in Japan following shortly after. Flashlight Brown
Flashlight Brown is a Canadian punk rock band, originally from Guelph, who formed in 1996. Biography Bucchino, Conroy, Hughes, and Thomson formed a band, then simply called "Flashlight", out of boredom and frustration and quickly moved from the small college town of Guelph to the much larger Toronto, Ontario. At first, they were unable to get the attention of nightclub owners, so they devised a fictitious talent agency, called the Harry Wells Booking Agency, which would "represent" them. With the agency as their intermediate, they quickly gained enough recognition to go on tour. They began touring across Canada in a van. In 1997, they managed to release a self-titled debut album through the Quebec-based Stomp Records, which they would follow up with the ''Running Season'' LP two years later. Bubblegum Music
Bubblegum (also called bubblegum pop) is pop music in a catchy and upbeat style that is considered disposable, contrived, or marketed for children and adolescents. The term also refers to a rock and pop subgenre, originating in the United States in the late 1960s, that evolved from garage rock, novelty songs, and the Brill Building sound, and which was also defined by its target demographic of preteens and young teenagers. Union Label Group is a record label based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was formed through the merger of the smaller labels Stomp Records, 2112 Records, and Tyrant Records. Mayday! Records was later created as a genre imprint. Stomp Records was founded in 1994 by Matt Collyer of The Planet Smashers and Jordan Swift of The Kingpins. The label specializes in third wave ska, and was founded to release ''All-Skanadian Club Volume 1'', a compilation of ska and ska punk from across Canada. This album came to be after Rob Cavallo contacted the band during one of their many tours of Canada. Cavallo was interested in recording two songs with the band, but this quickly turned into an entire album. The band was subsequently signed to Hollywood Records and released this calling it a "culmination of a 6 year career of living on the edge between a dream and despair". "Save It for Later" is a 1982 song written and recorded by British ska band the Beat (known in the United States and Canada as the English Beat). The song was released as a single from the band's third and final studio album, ''Special Beat Service'' (1982), finding moderate chart success in Britain.
