"Blubber Boy" is a song by Australian rock band Regurgitator. The song was released as a radio single in Australia in 1995 promoting the band's second EP ''New'' (1995). The song was released in the UK as a CD and 7" Single. The song ranked at number 17 on Triple J's Hottest 100 in 1995. A remixed version of the song was released on the band's debut studio album, ''Tu-Plang'' in 1996. In 2019, Tyler Jenke from The Brag ranked Regurgitator's best songs, with "Blubber Boy" coming it at number 3. Regurgitator are an Australian rock band from Brisbane, Queensland, formed in late 1993 by Quan Yeomans on lead vocals, guitar and keyboards; Ben Ely on bass guitar, keyboards and vocals; and Martin Lee on drums. Their debut studio album, ''Tu-Plang'' was released in May 1996; it was followed by ''Unit'' in November 1997 which was certified triple platinum. ''Unit'' won five categories at the ARIA Music Awards of 1998: Album of the Year, Best Alternative Album, Producer of the Year (for Magoo), Engineer of the Year (Magoo) and Best Cover Art (for The Shits). ''New'' is the second extended play (EP) by Australian rock band Regurgitator. The EP was released in August 1995 and peaked at number 30 on the ARIA singles chart. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1996, it was nominated for ARIA Award for Highest Selling Single. Quan Yeomans
Quan Yeomans (born 12 December 1972) is an Australian musician best known as the frontman of the band Regurgitator. Early years Yeomans was born in Sydney to a fifth-generation Australian father, Neville, and his mother Lien, a well-known Vietnamese Australian chef and author. His parents divorced during his childhood, during which he recalls listening to various Fleetwood Mac albums. At an early age Lien arranged for family friend and Channel Seven newsreader Peter Waltham to give music lessons for Quan in exchange for cooking lessons. In 1984, his family relocated to Brisbane and he attended Bardon Primary School before attending Kelvin Grove State High School until graduation in 1989. Yeomans travelled with his father in 1991 to Rio de Janeiro to the World Economic Forum, where he heard Indian scientist and author Vandana Shiva speak about the crippling, cyclic effects of debt on the Third World. Magoo (Australian Producer)
Magoo is the professional name of Lachlan Goold, a multi award-winning Australian music producer based in Brisbane, Queensland. After working briefly in mechanical engineering, Magoo began in music as a live sound engineer, touring nationally before producing seasoned local Brisbane bands the Dreamkillers and Pangaea in the early 1990s. By the mid-1990s Magoo had recorded music by Powderfinger, as well as two EPs by Regurgitator. He rose to prominence with his production work on Regurgitator's debut album ''Tu-Plang'', which also earned him his first ARIA Music Awards, ARIA award nominations in 1996. In the late 1990s, Magoo was engaged to produce or engineer for a number of high-profile acts such as Midnight Oil and Skunkhour. Triple J (stylised in all lowercase) is a government-funded, national Australian Radio in Australia, radio station intended to appeal to listeners of alternative music, which began broadcasting in January 1975. The station also places a greater emphasis on broadcasting music of Australia, Australian content compared to commercial stations. Triple J is a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. ''Tu-Plang'' (ตู้เพลง Thai for ''Jukebox'') (1996) was the first album released by Australian rock band Regurgitator after making two EPs. The band chose to record the album in Bangkok, Thailand, to the quandary of its label, Warner Music, which was uncertain as to what terms A&R executive Michael Parisi had contracted. Ely later said, "We didn't want to do it in just any old place, so we had a tour in Europe and Japan booked and our drummer Martin said, 'let's stop in Thailand on the way and check out some studios,' so we did and we found this place." Producer Magoo later said the studio, "was wned bythis guy ho was in the bandCarabao. He was described to us as the local, Thai, Bruce Springsteen. He had this compound in outer Bangkok. Warner Music Australia Pty Limited (WMA) is the Australian division of the Warner Music Group. WMA also distributes in New Zealand. History In 1969, Warner Bros. Records branched out and WEA was born. The first country in which it was established was Canada, with the second being Australia.
