Victor Martin (sociologist)
Victor Martin (19 January 1912 – November 1989) was a Belgian academic sociologist. He was known for his involvement with the Belgian Resistance during World War II. Using academic networks established before the war, Martin agreed to undertake a spying mission in Nazi Germany on behalf of the Front de l'Indépendance group to find reliable information on the fate of Belgian Jews deported to Eastern Europe. Martin reported his findings about the mass extermination of Jews and was one of the first to provide detailed information on the functioning of the Auschwitz concentration camp. Espionage operation Martin had travelled in Switzerland, France and Germany before the war. His academic title had given him access to a network of contacts in German universities. As a member of the Belgian Resistance, he realized that his mastery of the German language was a valuable skill. He proposed himself for a secret mission in enemy territory. Bernissart (; pcd, Bernissåt) is a Municipalities of Belgium, municipality of Wallonia located in the Hainaut Province, province of Hainaut, Belgium. Luce Irigaray (born 3 May 1930) is a Belgian-born French feminist, philosopher, linguist, psycholinguist, psychoanalyst, and cultural theorist who examined the uses and misuses of language in relation to women. Irigaray's first and most well known book, published in 1974, was ''Speculum of the Other Woman'' (1974), which analyzes the texts of Freud, Hegel, Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, and Kant through the lens of phallocentrism. Hainaut Province
Hainaut (, also , , ; nl, Henegouwen ; wa, Hinnot; pcd, Hénau), historically also known as Heynowes in English, is a province of Wallonia and Belgium. The Belgian Resistance (french: Résistance belge, nl, Belgisch verzet) collectively refers to the resistance movements opposed to the German occupation of Belgium during World War II, German occupation of Belgium during World War II. Within Belgium, resistance was fragmented between many separate organizations, divided by region and political stances. The resistance included both men and women from both Wallonia, Walloon and Flanders, Flemish parts of the country.
