Blank Check (game Show)
''Blank Check'' is an American game show that aired on NBC from January 6 to July 4, 1975. It was promoted as "television's first ESP game". Art James was the host, with Johnny Jacobs as the announcer (Johnny Gilbert filled occasionally). Packaged by Jack Barry, this short-lived game was the first produced by Barry on NBC following the quiz show scandals of the 1950s, and the first of three games Barry produced at NBC in Burbank, California (the other two were ''Bullseye'' and '' Hot Potato'', both produced by Barry & Enright). In 1986, Barry & Enright threatened to sue Mark Goodson Productions for copyright infringement regarding the name of a game on ''The Price is Right'' at the time also titled "Blank Check". The Burbank Studios (formerly known as NBC Studios) is a television production facility located in Burbank, California. The studio is home to ''Days of Our Lives'', ''Extra'', the '' IHeartRadio Theater'', and was formerly home to the Blizzard Arena (home of the Overwatch League). History The West Coast Radio City, located at Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, opened in 1938 and served as headquarters to the NBC Radio Networks' West Coast operations. The contestant from Contestants' Row who bids closest to the price of a prize without going over wins the prize and has the chance to win additional prizes or cash in an onstage game. ''The Magnificent Marble Machine'' was an American television game show that featured a giant pinball machine as its centerpiece. The program premiered on NBC on July 7, 1975 at 12:00 pm ET, replacing the short-lived game show ''Blank Check''. Merrill Heatter and Bob Quigley packaged the program, with Robert Noah as executive producer. Art James served as host, and Johnny Gilbert was the announcer. ''The Who, What, or Where Game'' is an American television game show that was broadcast weekdays on NBC from December 29, 1969, to January 4, 1974. The host was Art James, and the announcer was Mike Darow; Ron Greenberg packaged the show, which was recorded in NBC studios 6A and 8H in Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. Edwin Newman
Edwin Harold Newman (January 25, 1919 – August 13, 2010) was an American newscaster, journalist, and author. After beginning his career with the wire services and serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Newman worked in radio for CBS News. He is known for a 23-year career in television news with the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), from 1961 to 1984. Early life and education Newman was born on January 25, 1919, in New York City to Myron, a credit manager, and Rose (née Parker) Newman. His older brother was M.W. Newman, a longtime reporter for the ''Chicago Daily News''. His grandparents were all Russian-Jewish immigrants. Newman married Rigel Grell (1923-2020) on August 14, 1944.
