''Blacktown'' is a comic strip in the series '' The spiffy adventures of McConey'' ( in the original French language), by the popular French cartoonist Lewis Trondheim. It was released in 1995 as volume 1 in the series. Trondheim chose the western genre for this volume, a genre he claimed to hate, as an exercise: he wanted to find out if he could create an exciting adventure out of something he originally didn't care for. Société Dargaud, doing business as Les Éditions Dargaud, is a publisher of Franco-Belgian comics series, headquartered in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. It was founded in 1936 by Georges Dargaud (), publishing its first comics in 1943. History Initially, Dargaud published novels for women. In 1948, it started '' Line'', a "magazine for elegant women", as well as a French edition of the Belgian ''Tintin'' magazine. In 1960, Dargaud bought the weekly ''Pilote'' magazine from René Goscinny, Albert Uderzo, and Jean-Michel Charlier. Lewis Trondheim
Lewis Trondheim (born Laurent Chabosy, , on 11 December 1964), is a French cartoonist and one of the founders (in 1990) of the independent publisher L'Association. Both his silent comic ''La Mouche'' and Kaput and Zösky have been made into animated cartoons. He explained his choice of pseudonym after the Norwegian city of Trondheim as follows: "As a last name I wanted to use a city's name, but Lewis Bordeaux or Lewis Toulouse didn't sound so good. Then I thought about this city, Trondheim… Maybe someday I will publish a book under my real name, in order to remain anonymous." Biography Lewis Trondheim was first known as the author of ''Les formidables aventures de Lapinot'' (later to be translated to English as '' The Spiffy Adventures of McConey''). Wild West
The American frontier, also known as the Old West or the Wild West, encompasses the geography, history, folklore, and culture associated with the forward wave of American expansion in mainland North America that began with European colonial settlements in the early 17th century and ended with the admission of the last few western territories as states in 1912 (except Alaska, which was not admitted into the Union until 1959).
