Black Mountain (Missouri)
Black Mountain is a summit in western Madison County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The peak has an elevation of . The St. Francis River flows past the east side of the mountain at an elevation of about 560 feet. Missouri Route E passes the east and south side of the mountain. The community of French Mills lies adjacent to the St. Francis just to the south of the mountain. Black Mountain has the name of the local Black family. Summit
A summit is a point on a surface that is higher in elevation than all points immediately adjacent to it. The topography, topographic terms acme, apex, peak (mountain peak), and zenith are synonymous. The term (mountain top) is generally used only for a mountain peak that is located at some distance from the nearest point of higher elevation. For example, a big, massive rock next to the main summit of a mountain is not considered a summit. Madison County is a county located in the Lead Belt region of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,626. Its county seat and largest city is Fredericktown.
