Black Limelight (television)
''Black Limelight'' is a stage play by Gordon Sherry, which has been adapted for television at least four times. However, at least three of these adaptations are now lost. Plot Peter Charrington is a married commercial traveller who has been having an affair with a girl. When she is found murdered he is accused of the crime and his wife Mary has to prove his innocence. 1952 version A version aired as part of British series BBC '' Sunday Night Theatre''. Cast included Jack Allen, Victor Baring, Gladys Boot, Fanny Carby, Patrick Desmond, Nora Gordon, John Howlett, Barry Letts, Alun Owen, Margaret Rawlings, John Robinson and Brian Wilde. Two performances were broadcast, on 1 June 1952 and a few days later on 5 June. Wiping
Lost television broadcasts are mostly those early television programs which cannot be accounted for in studio archives (or in personal archives) usually because of deliberate destruction or neglect. Common reasons for loss A significant proportion of early television programming was never recorded in the first place. Early broadcasting in all genres was live and sometimes performed repeatedly. Due to there being no means to record the broadcast or, later, because the content itself was thought to have little monetary or historical value it was not deemed necessary to save it. In the United Kingdom, early programming was lost due to contractual demands by the actors' union to limit the rescreening of performances. Apart from Phonovision experiments by John Logie Baird, and some 280 rolls of 35mm film containing some of Paul Nipkow television station broadcasts, no recordings of transmissions from 1939 or earlier are known to exist. Victor Brooks (actor)
Victor Brooks (11 November 1918 – 19 January 2000) was a prolific English film and television actor. He specialised in character roles, police inspectors in particular, in British thrillers such as '' Cover Girl Killer'' (1959), ''Witchcraft'' (1964), and '' Devils of Darkness'' (1965). In 1961, he narrated the fifteen minute instructional Short, 'The Warden, His Duties and Training'. He also appeared in eight of the thirty-two episodes of 1964's ' Open House', playing himself, and The Host. His best known films are probably ''Goldfinger'' (1964), ''The Brides of Dracula'' (1960) and ''Billy Budd'' (1962).
