Black Diamond Hockey League
The Black Diamond Hockey League (BDHL) is a Semi Professional ice hockey league consisting of teams from the Western United States. Teams compete for the Joe Casey Cup - named in honor of former Jackson Hole Moose team captain who died suddenly at the age of 37. History The league was founded in 2014 with four member clubs: Bozeman Stingers, Jackson Hole Moose, Park City Pioneers and Sun Valley Suns. Teams played a 12-game schedule followed by a single-elimination playoff with the winner awarded the Joe Casey Cup. In the first-ever league game Jackson Hole shut out Park City 4-0. Jackson Hole Moose upset regular season winner Sun Valley, who were a perfect 12-0, to capture the first league championship. Season two in the BDHL saw the end of an era with the Park City Pioneers folding. The league replaced the team with the Missoula Desperados to remain at four teams. Garnet Exelby
John Garnet Exelby (born August 16, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Atlanta Thrashers and Toronto Maple Leafs. He was particularly known for his aggressive style of play and his checking abilities. Playing career After one season played with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 1998–99, Exelby was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the eighth round, 217th overall, of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He would continue playing in the WHL for the next two season with the Blades and Regina Pats. In the 2001–02 season, Exelby played in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the Chicago Wolves, winning the Calder Cup. Exelby was called-up by the Thrashers midway through the 2002–03 season. The Mountain West Hockey League (MWHL) is a Senior ice hockey league consisting of teams from the Western United States. History The MWHL was founded in Las Vegas, Nevada by Thomas Brown in 2012. It is a Senior A ice hockey league with clubs spanning the western United States. MWHL clubs are composed of North American and European players with junior, college, and professional experience. The MWHL features two geographic divisions: Sierra and Rocky. The MWHL regular season runs from November through March. The club with the best record at the end of the regular season is awarded the Commissioner's Cup. The MWHL Cup Playoffs are held in April, culminating in the MWHL Cup Finals. The Great Lakes Hockey League (GLHL) is a Semi Professional ice hockey league that is affiliated with USA Hockey. Players must be at least 18 years of age and most have previous NCAA College, Junior A or Professional hockey experience. There are currently nine teams in the league divided into two divisions. The Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) is a professional ice hockey independent minor league with teams in the Midwestern, Southern, and Northeastern United States. The FPHL began operations in November 2010 as the Federal Hockey League. Don Kirnan is the league's commissioner. The league also occasionally branded itself as the Federal Professional Hockey League from 2015 to 2018 until it began using the name Federal Prospects Hockey League and completing the rebrand in 2019. Stavanger Ishockeyklubb, commonly referred to as Stavanger Oilers, is a Norwegian ice hockey team based in Stavanger, Norway. Christian David Hanson (born March 10, 1986) is a former American professional ice hockey player. He last played in the St. Louis Blues organization in the NHL. Hanson played college hockey for the University of Notre Dame. He was not selected in the NHL Entry Draft, but signed a contract as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs after his senior season. Atlanta Thrashers
The Atlanta Thrashers were a professional ice hockey team based in Atlanta. Atlanta was granted a franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL) on June 25, 1997, and became the League's 28th franchise when it began play in the 1999–2000 season. They were members of the Southeast Division of the NHL's Eastern Conference, and played their home games at what is now known as State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta.
