Björt Ólafsdóttir
Björt Ólafsdóttir is an Icelandic politician who represented Bright Future in the Althing 2013-17 and is its current chairperson. She served as the Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources of Iceland from January to November 2017. Bright Future was formed to contest the 2013 Icelandic parliamentary election, which is when Björt entered the Althing as one of the new party's six MPs. She was elected chairperson of her party on 25 November 2017, after the previous chair Óttarr Proppé resigned following the results of the 2017 election, in which Bright Future lost every seat it held. In March 2015 she joined the protest #FreeTheNipple on Twitter, which was directed against censorship on women's bodies and sexism. She joined the protest by posting a picture of her naked breast. They were due to be held on or before 27 April 2017, but following the 2016 Icelandic anti-government protests, the ruling coalition announced that early elections would be held "in autumn". The Independence Party ( is, Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn) is a Liberal conservatism, liberal-conservative List of political parties in Iceland, political party in Iceland. Parliamentary elections were held in Iceland on 28 October 2017. On 15 September 2017, the three-party coalition government collapsed after the departure of Bright Future over a scandal involving Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson's father writing a letter recommending a convicted child sex offender have his "honour restored". Bjarni subsequently called for a snap election, which was officially scheduled for 28 October 2017 following the dissolution of the Althing. Óttarr Proppé
Óttarr Olaf Proppé (born 7 November 1968) is a former Icelandic politician. He is a musician, actor, former ReykjavÃk City Councilor (Best Party 2010-2014) and former Member of Parliament ( Bright Future 2013-2017). Óttarr was elected chairman of the party in 2015. He was a member of the rock band HAM in the years 1988–1994, as well as being the lead singer of the rock-cabaret band Dr. Spock. He also starred in several movies, including ''Sódóma ReykjavÃk'' from 1992, and '' Nói Albinói'' and ''Angels of the Universe'' from 2000. Althing
The Alþingi (''general meeting'' in Icelandic, , anglicised as ' or ') is the supreme national parliament of Iceland. It is one of the oldest surviving parliaments in the world. The Althing was founded in 930 at ("thing fields" or "assembly fields"), situated approximately east of what later became the country's capital, ReykjavÃk. Even after Iceland's union with Norway in 1262, the Althing still held its sessions at until 1800, when it was discontinued. It was restored in 1844 by royal decree and moved to ReykjavÃk. The restored unicameral legislature first came together in 1845 and after 1874 operated in two chambers with an additional third chamber taking on a greater role as the decades passed until 1991 when Althing became once again unicameral.
