Birch Tree
A birch is a thin-leaved deciduous hardwood tree of the genus ''Betula'' (), in the family Betulaceae, which also includes alders, hazels, and hornbeams. It is closely related to the beech-oak family Fagaceae. The genus ''Betula'' contains 30 to 60 known taxa of which 11 are on the IUCN 2011 Red List of Threatened Species. They are a typically rather short-lived pioneer species widespread in the Northern Hemisphere, particularly in northern areas of temperate climates and in boreal climates. Description Birch species are generally small to medium-sized trees or shrubs, mostly of northern temperate and boreal climates. The simple leaves are alternate, singly or doubly serrate, feather-veined, petiolate and stipulate. Harald Bjerke
Harald Borgen Bjerke (4 March 1860 – 1 April 1926) was a Norwegian businessperson. He was born in Kristiania. From 1895 to 1912 he was the managing director of Mandalsgatens Høvleri. From 1910 to 1912 he also chaired the Norwegian Employers' Confederation. From 1918 to 1926 he was the Director-General of Norsk Hydro. Svein Bjerke
Svein Bjerke (born 15 November 1938 in Oslo), is a religious historian and professor emeritus at the University of Oslo, where he was attached to the Department for the History of Religion for thirty years, part of the time as its head. He belonged to the first Norwegian group of anthropology students, but has since worked with archeological excavations (for example as member of The Scandinavian Joint Expedition to Sudanese Nubia in 1965-66), philological text analyses (especially in his thesis on the Egyptian mouth opening ritual) and traditional anthropological field work. His most well-known work is the doctoral dissertation ''Religion and Misfortune'' (UiO 1975; Universitetsforlaget 1981; ) based on fieldwork in North-Western Tanzania. Siri Bjerke
Siri Bjerke (19 June 1958 – 11 February 2012) was a Norwegian politician ( Labour Party). She was substitute member of the Norwegian legislature between 1997 and 2005, state secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1993 and 1997 and Minister of the Environment between 2000 and 2001 during Stoltenberg's first cabinet. Rune Bjerke
Rune Bjerke (born 17 June 1960) is a Norwegian businessperson and politician for the Labour Party. Rune is son of Juul Bjerke and brother of Siri Bjerke. Bjerke studied economics at the University of Oslo, and has a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University. From 1992 to 1995 he was city commissioner (''byråd'') of finance in the city cabinet of Oslo. Olaf Bjerke
Olaf Bjerke (6 January 1893 – 21 September 1957) was a Norwegian trade unionist and politician for the Communist Party of Norway, Communist Party. During the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany he was arrested on 10 September 1941 after the milk strike. He was imprisoned at Møllergata 19, then in Grini concentration camp, then in Sachsenhausen concentration camp until the end of World War II. The communist inmates formed a caucus in the camp, and Bjerke was among the leading members along with Kristian Mugaas, Johan Strand Johansen, Olaf Skramstad, Halvor Sørum and Erling Heiestad. A railway worker, Bjerke was involved in the trade union Norwegian Union of Railway Workers. Kristin Blystad-Bjerke
Kristin Blystad-Bjerke (born 7 July 1980) is a Norwegian footballer who played as a striker for Kolbotn of the Toppserien and Norway women's national football team. Club career Blystad-Bjerke started her career playing for Kolbotn in 1997. Later on, she moved to Denmark to play for Idrætsklubben Aalborg Freja for a couple of years, then to return eventually to Kolbotn in 2002. Juul Bjerke
Juul Bjerke (14 April 192828 February 2014) was a Norwegian economist. He was born in Hof, Vestfold. He took the cand.oecon degree and was hired in Statistics Norway in 1950. He served as State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance from 1971 to 1972, in Bratteli's First Cabinet. He was later a head of department in Statistics Norway from 1973 to 1983, then led the Economy Department at the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions from 1983 to 1993. Ingvald Johan Bjerke (March 13, 1907 – January 1, 1990) was a Norwegian boxer who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics.
