Saint Evasius ( it, Sant'Evasio; probably third century AD) is believed to have been a missionary and bishop of Asti, in north-west Italy. Novazzano is a municipality in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History Novazzano is first mentioned in 875 as ''Nepotiano''. In 1152 it was mentioned as ''Novezano''. Novazzano been inhabited since the Roman era, in Castel di Sotto Roman altar fragments have been found. During the Middle Ages Novazzano belonged to the county of Seprio. It was first mentioned as a municipality in 1335. In 1567, the village separated from the political and religious authority of the Pieve of Balerna, to become an independent parish. Stabio is a municipality in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History Stabio is first mentioned in 1067 as ''Stabio''. Excavations in the area around S. Pietro have found evidence of continuous settlements from about 400 BC to the 7th century AD. There are burial grounds from the Iron Age followed by a burial ground and patrician residential structures from the Roman era, traces of the cult of Mercury and numerous Lombards graves. In 1999, the rich grave goods of a Lombard warrior were discovered. In 1181, the Orelli family of Locarno gained the tithe rights in the region from the Bishop of Como.
