Bizalom
''Confidence'' ( hu, Bizalom) is a 1980 Hungarian film directed by István Szabó set in the final days of World War II. It follows two resistance members who must pose as husband and wife to stay safe from the Nazis, even though they are each married to other people. Critically acclaimed, it won Szabó the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 30th Berlin International Film Festival and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 53rd Academy Awards. Plot Towards the end of World War II, during the siege of Budapest, Kata (Ildikó Bánsági) is intercepted on her way home from the cinema, and informed that her apartment is being searched and that her daughter and husband, who is part of the Hungarian resistance, have already fled to safety. István Szabó
István Szabó (; born 18 February 1938) is a Hungarian film director, screenwriter, and opera director. Szabó is one of the most notable Hungarian filmmakers and one who has been best known outside the Hungarian-speaking world since the late 1960s. István Szabó's films are based on the tradition of the European auteurism that represent many aspects of the political and psychological conflicts of Central Europe's recent history often inspired by his own personal biography. He made his debut as a student in 1959, creating a short film at the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest, and his first feature film was released in 1964. Hungary has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since 1965. Only France has a longer unbroken streak entering the Foreign Oscar competition. This is a list of submissions to the 53rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 53rd Academy Awards, twenty-six films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The Silver Bear for Best Director (german: Silberner Bär/Bester Regie) is an award presented annually at the Berlin International Film Festival since 1956. 30th Berlin International Film Festival
The 30th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 18–29 February 1980. The Golden Bear was awarded to the American film ''Heartland'' directed by Richard Pearce and West German film '' Palermo oder Wolfsburg'' directed by Werner Schroeter. The retrospective was dedicated to American filmmaker Billy Wilder along with a 3D films retrospective. Moritz de Hadeln became the director of the festival and increased the efforts in expansion of Berlin film market. To ease tensions with the Soviet Union due to the Cold War era at the moment, the organizers decided to withdraw the films ''Ninotchka'' and ''One, Two, Three'' from the Billy Wilder retrospective. Lajos Koltai, ASC, HSC, (born 2 April 1946) is a Hungarian cinematographer and film director best known for his work with legendary Hungarian director István Szabó, and Italian filmmaker Giuseppe Tornatore. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 2000 for his work on the film '' Malèna''. Early years and career Born at the beginning of the Cold War, he became interested in film at a very young age, though in Hungary at the time, film containing subversive content was heavily censored. He shot his first short on a Super 8 film camera at the age of 14 and began to draft short scripts and turn them into movies starring friends and family.
