Bitche
Bitche ( , ; German and Lorraine Franconian: ) is a Communes of France, commune in the Moselle (department), Moselle Departments of France, department, administrative regions of France, administrative region of Grand Est, northeastern France. It is the Pays de Bitche's capital city and the seat of the Canton of Bitche and the communauté de communes du Pays de Bitche. The town belongs to the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park and is rated 4-flowers at the Concours des villes et villages fleuris, towns and villages in bloom competition. The town's population at the 2013 census was 5,225. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Bitchois'' and ''Bitchoises''. Pays De Bitche
The Pays de Bitche (, literally ''Land of Bitche'', german: Bitscherland or ) is a natural region located in the Moselle department of the Grand Est region of France. It corresponds to the present French part of the former principality of Zweibrücken-Bitsch and to the part of the Northern Vosges that lies within Lorraine. The Pays de Bitche has a total of 47 municipalities. 46 of them are gathered into the Bitche canton and the remaining one, Kalhausen, is a part of the Sarreguemines canton. Geography The Pays de Bitche has a total of 47 municipalities and covers the part of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park that lies within Lorraine. In the west and southwest it forms part of the agriculturally dominated Westrich Plateau. Louis-Casimir Teyssier
Louis-Casimir Teyssier (1821 in Albi – 1916 at Albi) was a French commander. Life He was recruited to the 21st regiment. As a lieutenant, he was wounded in Crimea, near Sevastopol and made a prisoner. He was released in December 15, 1855. made prisoner of war there he returned to France December 15, 1855. Serving in the 98th Regiment of the Line he was again wounded at Montebello, Italy in 1859. Afterwards he commanded a battalion of the 78th regiment of the line and in 1870 he was appointed commander of the fortress of Bitche. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 he defended the fortress with 3,000 men against about 20,000 Prussian and Bavarian soldiers until the French government ordered him to surrender after the cease fire in 1871. The German troops allowed the French troops to leave Bitche fully armed in acknowledgement of their braveness. He became commander of Marseille in May 1871 and Vicennes in 1872 as colonel. Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park
The Northern Vosges Regional Natural Park ( French: ''Parc naturel régional des Vosges du Nord'') is a protected area of woodland, wetland, farmland and historical sites in the region Grand Est in northeastern France. The area was officially designated as a regional natural park in 1976. At its inauguration, the park covered a total area of , but it has since grown to . The rich natural landscape has been added to the UNESCO list of international biosphere reserves. Northern Vosges PNR does not include any of the Vosges Mountains but rather the foothills just north of them. Hornbach (Schwarzbach)
The river Horn ( French: ''Horn''; German: ''Hornbach'') is a left tributary of Schwarzbach flowing through the department of Moselle, in northeastern France, and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, in southwestern Germany. The Horn's headwaters rise in the French town of Bitche, in the Moselle Department, following a north by north-eastern course, before forming a part of the border between France and Germany. Brigadier-General Charles Auguste Creutzer (1780–1832) was a French officer in Napoleon's Army. Biography Charles-Auguste Creutzer was born on 1 April 1780 in Deux-Ponts (French derivation, more commonly known as Zweibrücken, now in the Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany) which passed from the Palatinate-Birkenfeld-Zweibrücken at the time of his birth to Bavaria in 1799. Creutzer joined French military service 22 December 1799 with the guides of the Army of the Rhine (''Guides de l'Armée du Rhin''). He was promoted to corporal (''brigadier'') of the 11th Dragoons on 21 April 1800, he distinguished himself at the Battle of Memmingen on 10 May of that year, earning another promotion to sergeant (''maréchal des logis'') on 13 May by General Claude-Jacques Lecourbe.
