Bishop Walsh School
Bishop Walsh School is a K-12 Catholic school located in Cumberland, Maryland, and under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Approximately 350 students attend. The school also hosts a pre-K program and operates the St. Michael's pre-K program in Frostburg. History The school was founded by the Christian Brothers, a monastic order, and is named in honor of the Bishop James Walsh, a Cumberland-born missionary and member of the Maryknoll order, who preached in China and was imprisoned in solitary confinement by its Communist government for twelve years. When Walsh was finally released from prison in 1970 he was greeted by Pope Paul VI on August 25, 1970. He died at the age of ninety on July 29, 1981. Maryknoll
Maryknoll is a name shared by a number of related Catholic organizations, including the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers (also known as the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America or the Maryknoll Society), the Maryknoll Sisters, and the Maryknoll Lay Missioners. The organizations are independent entities with shared history that work closely together in the joint focus of the overseas mission activity of the Catholic Church particularly in East Asia, the United States, Latin America, and Africa. Fort Hill High School is a four-year public high school in Cumberland, Maryland, United States, serving 780 students in grades 9 through 12. Fort Hill is part of Allegany County Public Schools. History Fort Hill High School was one of three local New Deal projects. Fort Hill High school was a Public Works Administration project. Kevin Kelly (born August 18, 1953) is an American politician from Maryland and a member of the Democratic Party. Sam Perlozzo
Samuel Benedict Perlozzo (born March 4, 1951) is a former second baseman and manager in Major League Baseball, most recently with the Baltimore Orioles. Biography After graduating from Bishop Walsh School in Cumberland, Maryland, Perlozzo was drafted by the Twins after playing college ball at George Washington University. His professional baseball career included parts of two seasons as a reserve with the Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres, along with one season with the Yakult Swallows in 1980. Going into the last game of the 1977 season Perlozzo's teammate, Rod Carew, had 99 RBIs. Perlozzo started the game at shortstop in place of Roy Smalley, and just as Perlozzo was about to bat for the first time in the game, manager Gene Mauch grabbed him by the arm and said, "I want you to go up there and hit a triple, right now, this at-bat.
