Bischofferode is a village and a former municipality in the Eichsfeld (district), Eichsfeld district, in Thuringia, Germany. Since 1 December 2010, it is part of the municipality Am Ohmberg. Bischofferode consists of the subdivisions of Bischofferode, Hauröden and Siedlung "Thomas Müntzer". Bischofferode and Holungen The historical border of the area "Eichsfeld" goes straight through the drainage area of the two schools - Bischofferode and Holungen are dominated by the Catholic belief, that shows the traditional membership to the Eichsfeld. Hauröden is dominated by the Protestant belief, what shows, that the village was historically stronger linked to the Protestant area of Nordhausen and Sondershausen. (Hauröden has been a part of the district of Nordhausen until 1952). It was first mentioned in 1186 as a convent village of the monastery in Gerode. Eichsfeld (district)
Eichsfeld is a district in Thuringia, Germany, and part of the historical region of Eichsfeld. It is bounded by (from the east and clockwise) the districts of Nordhausen, Kyffhäuserkreis and Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis, and by the states of Hesse (district Werra-Meißner-Kreis) and Lower Saxony (district Göttingen). History In medieval times the Eichsfeld region, which is larger than the current district Eichsfeld, was property of the Archbishops of Mainz. Eichsfeld was the only region of Thuringia not to accept the Protestant Reformation, largely due to the efforts of the Archbishops of Mainz. In 1801, the clerical states were dissolved, and the Kingdom of Prussia gained the region, only to lose it again in the Napoleonic Wars. In the Congress of Vienna (1815) Prussia as well as the Kingdom of Hanover raised claims for the Eichsfeld. The region was divided between both states. Ohm Hills
The Ohm Hills (german: Ohmgebirge) are a small range of hills up to high and about 50 km² in area. They are part of the Lower Eichsfeld region and are located in the county of Eichsfeld, North Thuringia, Germany. Geography The Ohm Hills, most of which are densely wooded, whose southeastern foothills form the Bleicherode Hills, lie in the county of Eichsfeld on its boundary with Nordhausen. They are located between Weißenborn-Lüderode to the north, Bleicherode to the southeast, Worbis to the south and Teistungen to the west, and extend from the upper reaches of the River Helme in the north to the Wipper in the south. To the north and west the range is adjoined by historic landscape of the Lower Eichsfeld (''Untereichsfeld''), further south is the ridge of the Dün and to the southwest the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werra Valley Nature Park.
