Birmingham Central Mosque
Birmingham Central Mosque, is a mosque in the Highgate area of Birmingham, England, run by the Birmingham Mosque Trust. The organization, 'Muslims in Britain’ classify the Birmingham Central Mosque as, nonsectarian. The mosque has a capacity of 6,000, including women. The mosque provides a Sharia Council which in 2016 handled 400 requests for divorce. The mosque has 21 listed trustees, and its Chair is Maqbool Ahmed. Its Vice Chairman is Muhammad Sarfraz Madni. History A golden dome was added to the top of the minaret in 1981. In 1986, the mosque sought and was granted permission to call prayer within certain limits. Between 1988 and 1990, Al-Hijrah School educated children in three rented rooms within the mosque before moving to Midland House in Small Heath. Highgate is an area of Birmingham, England. Following the Big City Plan of February 2008, Highgate is now a district of Birmingham City Centre. This area is regarded as the site of the original Anglo-Saxon settlement which gave the city of Birmingham its name. Birmingham Central Mosque is one of Highgate's most distinctive buildings. The Islamic Sharia Council (ISC) is a British organisation that provides legal rulings and advice to Muslims in accordance with its interpretation of Islamic Sharia based on the four Sunni Islam, Sunni Madhhab, schools of thought. It primarily handles cases of marriage and divorce and, to a lesser extent, business and finance. Thousands of Muslims have turned to the Council to resolve family and financial issues. The Economist magazine states it has offered rulings to "thousands of troubled families since the 1980s", the council states that it has dealt with an average of between 200 and 300 cases monthly as of January 2012. Central Jamia Mosque Ghamkol Sharif is a Sunni mosque in Small Heath area of Birmingham, England. The website Muslims in Britain classifies the Ghamkol Shariff Masjid as Sufi – Bareilvi. Construction began on 15 March 1992, during Ramadan. Each night throughout its construction, a hafiz recited the Quran on the construction site. Building work ended in 1996. It can fit up to 5,000 people at one time. The Masjid is named after a Sufi saint's place of residence, Ghamkol Sharif near Kohat, in northern Pakistan.
