Bird Of Prey (album)
''Bird of Prey'' is the second studio album by the American rock band Zozobra. The album was released on August 5, 2008, through Hydra Head Records. ''Bird of Prey'' was largely written and performed by Caleb Scofield with Isis member Aaron Harris performing drums. Harris replaces drummer Santos Montano from Zozobra's debut album '' Harmonic Tremors'' because he and Scofield had wanted to record together for a while, and Scofield had always envisioned the band with a revolving cast of musicians. Following Scofield's death in 2018, ''Bird of Prey'' and ''Harmonic Tremors'' were released as a double LP with black-and-white versions of their original cover art as a benefit to his family. Zozobra (band)
Zozobra is an American heavy metal band, that was first conceived by Caleb Scofield during 2006. He was joined by Santos Montano for the band's first release, '' Harmonic Tremors'' in 2007. Early Zozobra recordings had a lot in common with the experimental-hardcore of Old Man Gloom and symbolically shares a synonymous name. Zozobra toured the United States with Isis and Jesu in early 2007. Zozobra allowed Caleb Scofield the chance to write his own songs for the first time ever, unlike Cave In and Old Man Gloom. Their second album, ''Bird of Prey'', was released on August 5, 2008, and featured Aaron Harris of Isis on drums. Their third full length '' Savage Masters'' was released on April 2, 2013. Scofield died on March 28, 2018, but contributors to the band's recordings have played multiple live sets of Zozobra songs as a tribute to Scofield. Hydra Head Records was an independent record label that specializes in extreme metal music, founded in New Mexico by Aaron Turner (the frontman of Isis) in 1993. It had another imprint, Hydra Head Noise Industries, which specialized in experimental and noise music. Turner announced he was winding the label down in 2012. In 2020, the label removed its catalog from Spotify and returned its album rights back to several artists. Aaron Harris (drummer)
Aaron Harris (born November 11, 1977) is an American musician and composer, best known for his career as the drummer for Los Angeles-based post-metal band Isis. He was with the band from its inception in 1997 to its dissolution in 2010. Since Isis' demise, Harris has become increasingly involved in his career as a composer and producer. His composing work has appeared in projects for A24, Warner Bros., Universal, Disney, Lionsgate, Netflix, NBC, Red Bull and Samsung, among others. As a producer Harris has also worked on records for Palms, Puscifer, Team Sleep, Pelican, Zozobra, Spotlights, Huey, Jakob, The Jezabels and more. Caleb Scofield
Caleb Mark Scofield (October 6, 1978 – March 28, 2018) was an American musician who was a bassist and singer mostly known for the alternative metal band Cave In, and his own sludge metal band Zozobra. Caleb was also a part of the sludge band Old Man Gloom. Music career Caleb Scofield gained an interest in heavy music through seeing local New Hampshire punk bands like Inline and The Rat, and as soon as he was able to drive, took a trip to Boston to see bigger East Coast hardcore bands like Sheer Terror and Sick of It All. He performed vocals for his first band, local New Hampshire hardcore act Strike 3. Isis (sometimes stylized ISIS) was an American post-metal band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1997. Santos Montano
Santos Montano is a drummer from Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is known for playing on the first album of the post-metal band Zozobra and for being a founding member and the drummer of post-metal band Old Man Gloom. In addition to his music career, he is working as part of an art department in the movie industry. Aaron Turner
Aaron Turner (born November 5, 1977) is an American musician, singer, graphic artist, and founder of label Hydra Head Records. He is most widely known for his role as guitarist and vocalist for the post-metal bands SUMAC and Isis, while also participating in several other bands and projects such as Old Man Gloom, Lotus Eaters and Split Cranium, a collaboration with Jussi Lehtisalo of Finnish band Circle who toured with Isis in 2009. Raised in New Mexico, Turner moved to the Boston area, where he attended art school and formed Isis and Hydra Head. In June 2003, Turner moved operations of both the band and label to Los Angeles, California. Turner now resides in Vashon, WA which is also the base of operations for Hydra Head and his various other activities.
