Binod Prasad Dhital
Binod Prasad Dhital (1923–2007) was a poet and novelist from Nepal. He is best known for his mythological novel ''Yojana Gandh''a, for which he was awarded the Madan Puraskar and Sajha Puraskar in 1995. Biography Dhital was born in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, Nepal, to Bhairab Prasad Dhital and Hutasan Kumari on 10 June 1923, and died on 16 August 2007. He served as a government employee as a Law Secretary at the Ministry of Law and devoted full-time to his passion for Nepali literature after retirement. Works Dhital wrote poetry and novels. His works include ''Ujyalo Hunu Aghi'', ''Acharya Bisnugupt Chanakya'' (Nepali translation), ''Astauna Lageka Chandramasanga'', and a Nepali translation of Dante’s ''Divine Comedy''. His novel '' Yojana Gandha'', based on the Sanskrit epic ''Mahabharata'', was published by Sajha Prakashan in 1995. ''Yojangandha'' () is a Nepali novel by Binod Prasad Dhital. It was published in 1995 by Sajha Prakashan. The book is based on a character from Mahabharata, Satyawati. The book won the prestigious Madan Puraskar. It is second book of the author who previously penned a regional novel called ''Ujyalo Hunu Aghi''. Synopsis The book depicts the story of Satyawati as she emerges from being a daughter of a fisherman to the queen of Hastinapur. The plot of Yojangandha is mainly based on Mahabharata and partly on Harivansh Purana and Devi Bhagavata. Yojangandha is also one of the innumerable characters hidden within the vastness of the gigantic book Mahabharata. The Madan Puraskar ( ne, मदन पुरस्कार) is a literary honor in Nepal which Madan Puraskar Guthi confers annually for an outstanding book in the Nepali language published within the calendar year. It is considered the most prestigious literature award in Nepal. It is awarded on the day of Ghatasthapana every year alongside Jagadamba Shree Puraskar. History The award was established by daughter in law of Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher JBR, Queen Jagadamba Kumari Devi, in memory of her husband late General Madan Shumsher JBR, on 26 September 1955. Sajha Puraskar () is a literary award given by Sajha Publications. It is presented annually to the best book published by Sajha Publication. Divine Comedy
The ''Divine Comedy'' ( it, Divina Commedia ) is an Italian narrative poem by Dante Alighieri, begun 1308 and completed in around 1321, shortly before the author's death. It is widely considered the pre-eminent work in Italian literature and one of the greatest works of world literature. Sajha Publications ( ne, साझा प्रकाशन, lit=Common Publication, translit=Sajha Prakashan) is the oldest publishing house of Nepal. It was established in 1913 and is funded by the Government of Nepal. Headquartered in Lalitpur, it has regional branches in Biratnagar, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Dhangadi. Litterateur and former bureaucrat Prahlad Pokhrel is the general manager of the publishing house.
