Billy Pontoni
Billy Pontoni, (born 1954) or Guillermo García, joined the Pedro Morales Pino conservatory in his hometown Cartago, Colombia, Cartago, Colombia as a child. Then he became one of the artists from the Youths Club in Radio Cartago, in which he made his first appearances as a singer. In 1966 he arrived to Bogotá searching for an opportunity. Cartago () is a city in southwestern Colombia, about west of Bogotá. It is in the extreme northern portion of the Valle del Cauca Department. Colombia In The OTI Festival
Colombia debuted in the OTI Festival in the first edition of the show which was held in Madrid. This country took part in the festival since 1972 to 1998 but in the 27th edition of the festival in 2000, the Colombian broadcasters decided to withdraw from the event due to the bad results from 1992 on. History RCN and Caracol Television were the Colombian broadcasters that organised the Colombian entries in the OTI festival. All the entrants were internally selected except from 1992 when a national final was held. During the Colombian history in this festival, the country got three third places, one of them in 1975 with Leonor Gonzalez Mina and in 1973 with Jaime Mora. Daniel Santos (June 6, 1916 – November 27, 1992) was a Puerto Rican singer and composer of boleros, and an overall performer of multiple Caribbean music genres, including guaracha, plena and rumba. OTI Festival ( es, Festival OTI de la Canción, pt, Festival OTI da Canção), often known simply as La OTI, was an international song competition, organised annually between 1972 and 2000 by the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) (English: Iberoamerican Television Organisation), featuring participants representing primarily Ibero-American countries. Each participating OTI member broadcaster submitted an original song in Spanish or Portuguese to be performed on live television and transmitted to all OTI broadcasters via satellite. OTI Festival 1978
The OTI Festival 1978 was the seventh edition of the annual OTI Festival. It was held in Santiago, Chile, who offered to stage the event after Nicaragua, who won the 1977 contest, was unable to organize it due the outbreak of the Nicaraguan Revolution. Organised by the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) and host broadcasters Televisión Nacional de Chile, Canal 13, UCV Televisión and Canal 9, the contest was held at the Municipal Theatre of Santiago on Saturday 2 December 1978 and was hosted by Raquel Argandoña and Raúl Matas. Matas had previously presented the inaugural OTI Festival back in 1972 in Madrid. In this year's edition, in which many changes took place, the winner of the show was the Brazilian entrant Denise de Kalafe with her song "El amor... cosa tan rara" (Love... such a strange thing).
