Billy Joe MacLean
William Joseph (Billy Joe) MacLean (born November 24, 1936) is a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Inverness South in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1981 to 1988. He represented the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party until he was expelled as an MLA on October 30, 1986, and was elected as an independent on February 24, 1987. MacLean was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 1936. One of his brothers, Norman J. MacLean, also served in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly for Inverness County from 1963 to 1973. He attended St. Francis Xavier University and is a businessman. From 1968 to 1973, (having been on town council since 1962) he served as deputy mayor of Port Hawkesbury, and from 1973 to 1981 as mayor. He is married to Glenda Auld. In 1994, MacLean was elected once again to serve as mayor of Port Hawkesbury and has been reelected since. In November 2015, MacLean announced that he will not seek re-election in 2016. William MacEachern
William Malcolm (Bill) MacEachern (July 26, 1930 – March 1, 2020) was a politician in Nova Scotia, Canada. He was born in Judique, Inverness County, Nova Scotia. In 1974, MacEachern was elected to represent the electoral district of Inverness County as a Liberal in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, where he served until his defeat in the 1981 election. A nova (plural novae or novas) is a transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star (hence the name "nova", which is Latin for "new") that slowly fades over weeks or months. Causes of the dramatic appearance of a nova vary, depending on the circumstances of the two progenitor stars. All observed novae involve white dwarfs in close binary systems. The main sub-classes of novae are classical novae, recurrent novae (RNe), and dwarf novae. They are all considered to be cataclysmic variable stars. Classical nova eruptions are the most common type. They are likely created in a close binary star system consisting of a white dwarf and either a main sequence, subgiant, or red giant star. John MacLennan Buchanan (April 22, 1931 – October 3, 2019) was a Canadian lawyer and former politician who served as the 20th premier of Nova Scotia from 1978 to 1990 and as a member of the Senate of Canada from 1990 to 2006. Early life Buchanan was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, the son of Flora Isabel Campbell and Murdoch William Buchanan. He graduated from Mount Allison University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Certificate in Engineering. He then went on to study at Dalhousie Law School and after graduating in 1958 entered the practice of law where he was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1972 and awarded Doctorates from Nova Scotia Technical College, Mount Allison University, Saint Mary's University, St. Francis Xavier University, and Université Saint Anne. The Executive Council of Nova Scotia (informally and more commonly, the Cabinet of Nova Scotia) is the cabinet of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Almost always made up of members of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, the Cabinet is similar in structure and role to the Canadian Cabinet while being smaller in size with different portfolios. The Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, as representative of the King in Right of Nova Scotia, heads the council, and is referred to as the Governor-in-Council. Other members of the Cabinet, who advise, or minister, the viceroy, are selected by the Premier of Nova Scotia and appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor.
