Billy Hendry
William Harold Hendry (20 June 1869 – 4 May 1901) was a Scottish footballer who played as a defender. Born in Newport-on-Tay he played in the Football League for Bury, Preston North End, Sheffield United, Stoke and West Bromwich Albion. Football career Early career After leaving school, Hendry, a talented forward, played for Dunblane Thistle and then Dundee Wanderers, usually at outside right, but he was soon to play football in England. There was no professional football at the time in Scotland, so those players with talents to sell crossed the border. In 1888, Hendry found himself playing for West Bromwich Albion in the first Football League season. Hendry made his League debut on 8 September 1888, in a 2–0 win against Stoke at the Victoria Ground. Hendry scored his debut League goal on 29 September 1888 at Stoney Lane, against Burnley. Preston North End Baseball Club were a short lived English professional baseball club, who played their home games at Deepdale, competing for the 1890 National League of Baseball of Great Britain. Ernest Needham
Ernest Needham (21 January 1873 – 8 March 1936) was an English footballer and cricketer. He played in sixteen international football matches for England and captained the side in 1901. He was an outstanding left half who played for Sheffield United from 1891 until 1910. He was instrumental in their promotion campaign of 1892–93 and then captained their team from 1895 to 1905. Under his captaincy, United won the Football League First Division in 1898 and the FA Cup in 1899 and 1902. He played first-class cricket for Derbyshire from 1901 to 1912. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. The Midland Football League was a semi-professional football league in England. It acted as a feeder league to the Football League for many years before merging with the Yorkshire League in 1982 to form the Northern Counties East League. John Drummond (born 15 March 1869) was a Scottish footballer who played as a midfielder. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland he had spells with Partick Thistle, Preston North End, Sheffield United, Liverpool and Barnsley St. Peter's before retiring. Playing career Drummond began his career at Scottish club Partick Thistle in 1889 before moving South of the border to sign for Lancashire club Preston North End, with whom he made a scoring debut in The Football League against West Bromwich Albion on 13 September 1890.
