Billy Boyd (footballer)
William Gillespie Boyd (27 November 1905 – 14 December 1967) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a centre-forward. He is most notable for playing for Clyde – during his time there he scored 91 goals in 111 league appearances and won his two Scotland caps – and Sheffield United, for whom he scored 30 goals in 42 appearances. Playing career Scotland Boyd was born in Cambuslang and began his career with Regent Star Rutherglen. Whilst playing for Junior side Larkhall Thistle he scored over 200 goals in three seasons. This prodigious goal-scoring form led to a transfer to Clyde. Boyd currently holds Clyde's record for the most goals in a season, scoring 32 in 1932–33. This feat got him noticed by the English clubs, and in December 1933, he was transferred to Sheffield United. Cambuslang
Cambuslang ( sco, Cammuslang, from gd, Camas Lang) is a town on the south-eastern outskirts of Greater Glasgow, Scotland. With approximately 30,000 residents, it is the 27th largest town in Scotland by population, although, never having had a town hall, it may also be considered the largest village in Scotland. It is within the local authority area of South Lanarkshire and directly borders the town of Rutherglen to the west. Historically, it was a large civil parish incorporating the nearby hamlets of Newton, Flemington, Westburn and Halfway. Cambuslang is located just south of the River Clyde and about southeast of the centre of Glasgow. Scottish Junior Football Association
The Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) is an affiliated national association of the Scottish Football Association and is the governing body for the junior grade of football in Scotland. The term "junior" refers to the level of football played, not the age of the players. The closest equivalent terminology would be non-League football in England, the difference being that junior football in Scotland was not similarly integrated into its football league system until 2021. Founded in 1886, the SJFA is responsible for disciplinary matters within the grade, certain player registration procedures and organising the annual Scottish Junior Cup. Other league and cup competitions are organised by regional committees. The association headquarters are at Hampden Park, Glasgow, which is Scotland's national football stadium. The Irish League representative team was the representative side of the Irish Football League, the national league for football in Northern Ireland from 1922 and, prior to that the league for Ireland. The Irish League was suspended from 1941–42 to 1946–47 due to the Second World War. Arthur Holt (cricketer)
Arthur George Holt (8 April 1911 – 28 July 1994) was a Hampshire first-class cricketer in the 1930s and 1940s, who also played professional football for Southampton. After retirement from playing both sports, he became a coach with Hampshire and established a successful sports shop. Football career Holt was born in Southampton and represented Southampton Schoolboys, before turning out for Bitterne Congregational in the Church League. Moving to Totton in the Hampshire League he came to the notice of Southampton, whom he joined in September 1931 as an amateur, before signing as a professional in October 1932. He made his first-team debut away to Manchester United on 7 January 1933 as centre-forward in place of Ted Drake who was suffering from influenza. Despite scoring twice in five games, he lost his place to Drake and only made three more appearances in the 1932–33 season. Jimmy Dunne
James Dunne (3 September 1905 – 14 November 1949) was an Irish footballer who played for, among others, Shamrock Rovers, Sheffield United, Arsenal and Southampton. Dunne was also a dual internationalist and played for both Ireland teams: the FAI XI and the IFA XI. Dunne was the first Irishman to figure prominently in the English League scoring records. In the 1930–31 season he scored 41 league goals for Sheffield United. This became a club record and remains the most league goals scored by an Irishman during a single English League season. In the 1931–32 season, he scored in 12 consecutive matches, a record until Stan Mortensen scored in 15 for Blackpool in the 1950-51 season. Dunne also scored 30 or more First Division goals in three consecutive seasons between 1930 and 1933. He excelled at either centre forward or inside forward and was outstanding with his head.
